Can I be awkward and say that I used to have an angry song list, and would iron to it, whilst scream-singing. It was a great way of getting lovely smooth sheets. I HATE ironing. Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill album was a favourite. Then as I calmed down, I'd play her song Ironic: however, for a long time I thought "a death row pardon, two minutes too late" was actually "a death-throw #ard-on"...

I'm not suggesting those songs for your girls, btw ;-)

The balloon idea is beautiful; the happy songs idea would be an all-weather thing that you can all contribute to.

Your girls might also find it comforting to know that you feel sad and cry, and what helps you get through?

:rotfl:Love that album and Ironic, I think I will sing your lyrics from now on though !

I hate ironing too, actually detest it. We have angry songs, our favourite being Gives You Hell ( Im not sure who its by) . But its one the for the girls and I always choose if we are angry and has been adopted by some of DD1s friends when they have had a bad day at school as well.

I think I will find time tomorrow and sort a happy and angry playlist out for us all ! ;)

  • Well yesterdays "treat" was tough going, not appreciated in the slightest and stressful as hell.:( The nastiness and aggression and the tantrums were being bandied around like they were going out of fashion.

She couldnt even say thankyou, or try and pretend she even enjoyed herself for the sake of the children who were absolutely wonderful with her as usual.

This needs to stop and fast xx:(

  • What a pity - you wanted to give her a treat (and I know it's not about the money spent).

It's tough going when people close to you get ... forgive this description - toxic.

  • :( so sorry it didn't go as planned. My mother is the same with me sometimes, she's so grateful when my sisters do anything for her but I often help her out money wise as well as practical wise (i've put up shelves for her, helped her paint etc etc) and I very rarely get a thank you for it. I still do it though as she's my mum, very upsetting though. I hope you and the girls are ok and enjoyed the day as best as you could x

  • Thankyou all,

I probably shouldn't have written that. I didn't sleep last night but instead sat up all night long stressing out over what had gone on and how I was going to deal with all of this. It was wrong of me to write it down but I was so exhausted and think I just needed to get it off my chest . Shes always been tough going but this is off the scale and as its been 6 months since he went into hospital and its a daily occurrence its beginning to take its toll. Her behaviour was spotted at the hospital and I was taken to one side on more than one occasion by the consultants and the nurses and told that she must stop as they could see what she was doing and said that they were concerned as she would make me ill with her behaviour. These were from total strangers who knew nothing about her ! . Many people have told me that I need to step away for the sake of the PG family, but how do you do that when its your own mother and recently bereaved at that ? Every now and then I see a different nice side to her and then I feel so guilty for feeling as I do. I am trying so hard to look after her but sadly my best really isn't good enough. Ho Hum !

Onwards and upwards. Enough of the doom and gloom, I'm off to do the ironing now. Not sure which is worse really ! xx

Oh and we made £30 this weekend on fleabay, so will pop that in the "Magic Drawer" and try and build up the coffers again. xx

  • ((((((((((MrsPG and girls))))))))))))))

A friend of mine is in a similar situation and is coming to the conclusion that she is going to have to cut off all contact with her mother to prevent the children getting pulled into unpleasant situations not of their making.
  • don't be sorry for having written about your mum. at least you aren't keeping things bottled up which would exacerbate the problem. i have similar issues with my mother but i know that my dad would have wanted me to stay in touch. it helps knowing that it's something I can do for him even though he's no longer with us. maybe if you could see it like that, it'd be a bit easier.

Yes please don't feel bad about writing how you felt. Sometimes just writing it down helps, whether this is to get it off your chest, keep a record of how it's making you feel or giving you a chance to make a decision

My DM can be pretty hurtful to me and my feelings quite often, and I've written about it on my diary. I agree it's hard when it's your mum but sometimes you have to be good to yourself to protect you and yours. You are not her scapegoat and for complete strangers to have noticed there clearly is something to be concerned about. The only good thing I can see to come out of that sort of behaviour is it makes you value the relationship you have with your own DC more

only you know how much you and your DDs can take but remember we are here to support you no matter what

I hope you sleep better tonight
