  • What a lovely evening for DD2 and lucky you were warm & toasty - even if you were wrapped for the Arctic.
  • Ahh so glad you had a nice time and DD2 will remember that forever, how lovely :) The local fireworks had special guests last year - one being M@tt cardle from x-factor and OMG the amount of screaming girls was ridiculous, one of them nearly crushed DS2! He started crying because he was so scared of all the screaming teenagers :p poor thing haha!

Ooh Mr C2rdle !! We have been lucky enough to meet him on a couple of occasions, by sheer chance really. He has recorded where the girls sing , so they met him there and in the summer we were just parking the car in London when who should be standing right next to us drinking a C0stA but Mr C !! We casually climbed out of the car, said Hi and merrily went on our way whilst the girls took sneaky photos when he wasn't looking ! x

  • I am supposed to be applying for a job. I feel sick at the thought having not had an interview in years. I have no idea who to write as references as having been self employed for 15 years, I ahve lost touch with past work colleagues and the business I used to work for ceased tradign long ago.

The job will / should fit in around the current business but will me I have to work more in the evenings and weekends re our business to try and get everything done. I have no idea how this will work taking on more work but I think I need to try, that way we will at least have a regular income if clients are slow in paying and will give us something to fall back on.

I have had the application form for two weeks but have been putting off filling it in. It needs to be in today but I am stressing out. I seem incapable of writing anything good about myself to put on the form. Its just a clerical job, a no brainer really, something I can do standing on my head , but to have to tell someone why I would be good at the job just isn't coming naturally or easily to me. I have been staring at a blank page for the last half an hour. :(

  • Open up a blank page on the computer and just start typing. Words, phrases, bullet points if you so desire. Anything to start getting words on paper (OK, on the screen).

It can start as complete b00llocks, but its a start. Go back and tidy up later.

"I have been involved in clerical work for XX years, including managing a budget / team / running place on my own, ordering supplies, I'm good at prioritising, I'm a team player, I'm flexible, I have good raport (sp?) with colleagues and clients, I'm approachable. My skills are: typing (?), Excel (?), telephone skills, 'people skills' ..."

    Good luck
Unrelated (ish) - my temporary job have offered me a full-time post (less than what I was on, but still do-able budget-wise). Why don't I care? They're nice people and, again, I can do it standing on my head.

Shall we meet up and bang our respective brains together?

    Take care.
  • Just About There is exactly right. Start writing something in rough and it breaks the feeling that you don't know how to start.
Sell yourself. Try to write responses re the application form - go down it trying to comment on the bullet points so that you have covered everything that they require re skills, experience etc.
Try to find out about the company so that your comments are relevant to position advertised.
Tell them that you are willing to learn new skills for the job as you haven't been in an office for a few years.
Take a copy of your completed application form so that you can refer back to it later if necessary.
    Good Luck

  • I hope you managed to complete your application PG. There are some really good examples of cover letters on the internet. Just type in your search 'sample cover letter - administration officer' or whatever the job title is. It can be a really useful starting point.

  • Did you get the application in on time Mrs Pg? I hope so. It's hard filling out application forms when you've not done any for a long time. I offered to help my friend fill out one for a dinner lady job. I thought it would be easy peasy. Haha! the application was 10 pages long  so I feel your pain!

    Have a lovely weekend :D
