hang on..at your request? Surely thats an error for a start?

generally banks do try and change terms and conditions from time to time but yes usually they can't actually do it if you resist. Your problem will be that you cant easily just flounce off elsewhere

Try and find out some background..why now?

Because we made a few late payments is why I believe it is now and there is less money going into the account than in years gone by. We do have another basic bank account elsewhere, but we hung onto this one for the benefits and it does have a cheque book ( the other one doesn't) which I do need to use every now and then. This account was one of those "by invitation only" ones where you need to be earning a certain amount. We were offered it a years ago when things were better financially and we were using the account as our main one and all our earnings were going into it. They don't now, only a small amount goes into it. They have been trying to get us to downgrade for about two years now, but we have always refused, as I said yesterday the benefits we use are more than the £300 fee yearly. I can understand why they have done it as we dont meet the criteria for that account anymore. After I posted yesterday I looked into the bank account they have changed us to and thats still a fee account at £100 a year. I wont jump up and down too much, think its easier to keep schtum while we are getting back on our feet, but it just really irritated me that the letter said , as you pointed out Mrs B, " at out request" which it clearly wasnt !!

Thats banks for you ! x

  • its always the way though -and such a shame you cant benefit from the account. :) Hope things are going better for you, you seem so stressed at the moment - and I know how it is.
