Now up to £169.95. Still no stock in my area though.

Now plenty in stock at every Argos within 100 miles of me, but at £170 they will be staying in stock a long time I suspect. Maybe worth keeping an eye out for price drops when none shift off the shelves..

Which cable did you order, be sure the USB 2.0 end is female to plug the drive into not male. USB female to micro male are often called OTG (on-the-go) cables.

    Because I don't want a cable/any extra bulk. :)

Yup I can appreciate that. Although personally I wouldn't use because the micro USB sockets are the curse of current electronics in some ways. I spend a lot of time messing with and helping people with tablet faults and a huge number of times the fault is refusal to charge because these sockets are quite fragile, not much physically holding/connecting them to a circuit board - obvious as things get smaller.

A connection to the board gets broken and the thing is useless. This can happen just by an accidental tug on the cable by people dropping or using whilst plugged in.

With a cable, especially a right angle one there is not much leverage applying pressure to the connector mount. My concern is with all these adaptors and card readers some are going to have hanging out the socket it gives a far longer 'lever' simple laws of mechanical advantage means it needs a many times lighter knock and hasta la vista socket!

With a fixed battery in the Moto there isn't even any other way of charging it and a 'damage' fault may be a matter of contention when it goes for a warranty repair.

My aim would be keeping the shortest distance protruding from the phone the better, if I needed external storage the wireless solutions, you can get wireless card readers are more appealing although a lot more costly of course.

Very least I would use one of these

Got the Moto G yesterday and just customising today. First impressions are screen really good, speed not quite as snappy as I was expecting for a quad but not laggy at all, side by side its a shade slower than my Samsung Note also on Jelly Bean, but then the Samsung did cost 4 times as much! (the Moto is not 4 times slower though about 15% maybe)

It comes with a very bare Android install which I like but not even a file manager! had to get one from Google store before I could poke around the device, Google/Motorola don't want to encourage you going under the hood :p

Personally I am going off each new version of Android as they take more option choices away each version.

Shortage of useful default Widgets, need to put apps on to get what should be standard this many versions of Android down the line. That's Google's fault. Also no plain wallpapers all far 'too busy to see the icons' Had to create and copy over my own.

Glad to see spell checker working! in some fit of utter insanity Samsung saw fit to strip it out of their Android versions. Stupid!!!!

I prefer all software keys like on the Moto as they don't wear out but there is quite a big unused space at the screen bottom, this is actually quite useful to hold the phone by your thumb without pressing anything by accident.

Sadly this is another phone with a side power button as increasing amount are, I don't care for it. I wish they would go back to top ones. They suffer less wear and tear and accidental presses.

All in all its not looking bad for £65 using some Topcashback credit. Oh yes that will do nicely!

What possessed Amazon to sell me a SIM Free 16GB one for £118 I don't know, software glitch? shame it was a short glitch, just glad for once I was in the right place..

You got a excellent buy there sillygoose

The thing I don't like is the Google search bar at the top of screen you can't move it or delete it
Also you are right about the on/off button I keep going to use it as the volume button

The wallpaper thing I use Zedge free app all the time on my Android phones I find its easy to use good little app.

The Google search bar became permanent when Google decided to do away with the hardware search key.

You can also bring up search no matter where you are on the phone by swiping up from your home button (another on screen key benefit).

    Hi

I hate the Google search too, why it couldn't stay a widget, yes Google you run Android, OK, we get it...

You can get rid of it by using an alternative launcher to front end the phone, the stock Android one is pretty sparse on features. Can't say I tried any to recommend but probably will look at it.

Postman just bought a purple coloured back panel for it, nice purple! well it is going to be my wife's phone.

I disable it and then rebooted the phone now gone
    Settings/Apps/All/Google search press disable

I don't know if it will have any impact on any of the other apps but so far so good for me you can still search in your browser.

Have you tried using the screen area? I have seen this method before but whilst it got rid of the bar it still left that area of screen reserved by the Android loader so nothing could be placed in it, not really gaining anything.. be good if it works now!
