I did them !!! Took me an hour including making a spreadsheet for the results. Well, I call it a spreadsheet, it was more like a chart/table but in excel!! Did a GCSE one earlier today.

Dc home 8.25, then managed 2 bits of hwk. I'm impressed.

New leccy charges: standing charge up  by 75%; unit rate by 35%.

New gas charges: standing rate up by 5%; unit rate by 85%.

Ish.

Their price cap means we pay en extra £100 pcm. We currently pay c£75. So dh is going to look back at our historical usage and see whether to ask to be off the cap rate.

Both he and dc feel the cold, dc very acutely. Yet he was very anti my curtains -around-the -stairs idea... Reckons it is enough to just pull to / shut the upstairs doors. I said that still means the heat is going up to the upstairs ceiling....Impasse 😆

That's what old cottages did, enclosed stairs with a door. Definitely keeps downstairs cosy.

The stairs run up the side of the lounge and are open plan. I'll see what I can do...

We've just watched the ML show and it was good to realise that we are doing everything he suggested. And we are in agreement about our energy usage habits, and what to look at.

Today was a lovely day until about 4.15. dh took dc bouldering and I nipped up to the gym and to liddle. The buses and trains all played nicely and I hardly had to wait anywhere.  I got a rugby match in before taking dc to dance, where I had a mega and wonderful chat with a friend. The 1 hour 45 flew by so we're meeting up again next week!

We got home and dh had gone to help a friend set up his new TV so the sound went through the room speakers. This friend gave dh a lift home and because dh won't take money for his work, this friend helps us with housey tasks. So they were outside the front door, at the bin cupboard, where the wooden 'step/sill' in front of it has rotted away. We could see them through the nets. I realised the friend would pop in to say hello and suggested dc go upstairs to avoid being spoken to. To me, it was a sensible idea, but l think this has made dc shutdown. They were so angry. Sigh. I have fed them their tea upstairs and they are using texts to request anything they want/need. I just suddenly feel gutted and upset myself.

Oh honey!  Sorry to hear this - obviously, *you* know your motivations were kind, but not experienced that way.  Would phrasing it as a question help, rather than suggesting?  Can you initiate a text?  Hope it clears up.

If you hadn't suggested it, you would have ended up in the wrong, you did suggest it, so you have ended up in the wrong.  It was probably coming anyway, and that was the catalyst.  You can't second guess it. It will drive you mad.

Thank you both . The situation has improved. I was allowed in and they wanted to tell me about bouldering, which went so well this morning. Then about dance stuff. Then show me and dh some dances with music,downstairs. They know exactly what triggered their 'slump', which is useful, and they also realise that they were having a great day up to that point. Also good.

Now, the aforementioned friend invited us all for lunch tomorrow 😂 but dc will stay home and, as I put it, have a couple of hours of peace and quiet/noise and mayhem. They seem happy with that!

So, the day has ended much better.

I'm very glad to hear it - and I bet foxholes was on the ball with what was going on - dc is a teen, you're a parent, it's your *job* to be wrong, I'm afraid!
