Cringing at the thought of scraping contacts/ eyeballs
but how lovely that dc wants you **there** tomorrow. Lovely when they grow to the age that they've got choice, and they want you still
2023: the year I get to buy a car1 -
One of the lovely things about the last week was that the only shops we went to were food ones. A couple of aldee/liddle visits for both us and the youth ( items that were not delivered with the food orders), a couple of coffee runs for the leaders and a couple of visits to the great coffee shop in the village. So nowt extra came home with us apart from a Spot book for dgs2.

Hope Valley is lovely @apple_muncher - easy route from Edale to Castleton (also both on the train line so you don't have to do a circular walk) and you can do a slight detour up Mam Tor -- also good history lesson about the right to roam and civil disobedience. Visit Peverial castle, nice little tea shops, river through the middle with trout - you can buy a bag of duck grain at a junk shop next to it. Spent many a happy hour feeding the wildlife. Glossop is a little further north - it is a hip and hippy little village. Gluten free is not a problem here!August still has some well dressings, which are worth seeing, it is an art form in the Derbyshire area.Eyam - the plague village is also educational and makes you think.Whereabouts are you staying? and can you borrow someone's EH or NT membership card/car parking sticker?

Thanks f0xh0les! I used to take y9s on week long residential s out there!!! The blue John caves, Mam Tor, cement-making, field system, dark v white peak, Eyam... Cor, that was about 25 years ago!!! It always rained.Remember being driven up Wynatt's (sp?) Pass in a small car with 5 of us in it. Think we went up in first gear! Went up Mam Tor with my arm in a sling - first shoulder dislocation. Did so much visiting when living in Sheffield that I can't remember it all. I just know it when I go back to a place! Lived above the snow line for 5+ years and loved it! Such a great place to live back then - 5 student years (4 year course incl a year abroad + pgce year) and 4 of working. I know it wouldn't be the same, returning there to live. But the nostalgia is fun. We're staying in Cheddleton ( I think!) in a quirky- looking house, which alone should satisfy dc's photographic skills. Not in the Peak district itself, but near Leek. Leek, if I recall correctly from a previous stay in the middle of nowhere, is a nice little town. Don't think I've ever been to Glossop. Yet...!If it was just dh and me, we'd be out walking every day. Not sure dc will handle that, and we've 4 full days there, so maybe try for 2 walks and 2 town/ village visits.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!1

Today we were going to walk to the most local zero waste shop. I checked it on gmaps and had a shock- it was not left at the roundabout; it was right. Twangs of the Ab Fab music run through my brain- the one in France, when they leave the airport....It was also a mile further (3.3 miles) . So we didn't go! It's really near my counsellor so I'll go and have a look in Sept. But I'm meeting a friend for a coffee on Thursday morning, and there's another zero waste place in that town. So I plan to get there early and pop there first 😎And tomorrow, we're off to the circus in Hove!In the meantime, I was asked if I'd empty the local primary's lost property box. I bring it home, check for any obvious ragbag items, wash it, dry it and sort it: named stuff goes back in Sept to the office to return to the owners; logo-ed stuff goes to the PTA to sell; the rest goes to the ch shops. I also invite neighbours to come and see if there's anything they can use for their kids.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!4

Good luck going to a zero waste place early, the one in the centre of my city opens at 10.30, because they are hippies, and hippies do not do 9-5, they do a 10.30 - 3.30, and hang a sign on the door when they decide to go home early. Bless!

Ha ha f0xh0les! I've looked at their website and it says they'll be open 9-5 that day... I'm only meeting my friend at 10.30- they requested 'not too early' - so should have plenty of time to potter around. It's only a 10 min walk from the coffee shop.
