Picking your brains AM - well, you and everyone else on here. I am hopelessly unpractical but thinking of buying a little hand held machine to take up hems etc. However, all the ones I've seen have only one basic stitch, none do overlocking. Does anyone know of a mini machine that does both please?
Thanks.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Fraid I've not much brain to pick regarding sewing machines, GG! I only recently graduated from my hand Singer machine, and I still forget to plug this one in and reach for the handle more often thatn not.
My only advice is either to google is (what DID we do before tinterweb arrived, eh?) or go to a store - jlewis?? - to look.
DH managed to unflummox the machine :j:j:j, but we have no idea quite how :rotfl:. However, after hand sewing 2 robins, I'm rather pleased that I can now scoot on with the others! Hand sewing is quite therapeutic, but I need the good direct light to properly enjoy the therapy, otherwise I end up with hunched up shoulders around my ears. Quasimodo doing needlework is not a look worth imitating.
Off to 'teach' some 10 year olds about Greek gods/Roman gods/ what we call them, and what they do/did. Thank heavens (or should that be Jupiter or Hercules...?) for tinterweb!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Got the other robins stitched and stuffed. 'Just' need to stitch round red chest and final seam, and add on eyes. I'd planned to embroider them on, but dd's choice of buttons was brilliant - only I don't have umpteen small black buttons to use!
Also cut out another flock.
And was looking at the fabric I bought - I've started looking at clothes with a view to 'what could I use that to make?' and one piece is a pale blue on white (birdies), the other is rows of red chillies with a few green ones, on white (something Christmassy, methinks) But I MUST not get distracted from the robins, not til I've done a flockful.
I think I shall do an inventory - again - this weekend of what I have already done, and what I think I need to do. Then promptly ignore it!
Well, tis Friday and nearly those elusive 2 days off!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Today has been a good day. Work was good, with some good chats with people.
Dd had a good time at a party aftrr school.
Dh is having to pack for a 6.30am departure tomorrow, to work away until Sunday.
So, on our own tomorrow, dd and I shall trot along to tap and ballet, come home for a snack, then hit hrr school fair with gusto. Sunday, I'm on kidz klub, so a bright and early start.
Aside from these commitments, I'd like to:
- tidy the kitchen and clear some worktop space
- tidy the top of the sideboard
- tidy the dresser
- make 6 robins
- exercise
- change the bedding
- do a wash
- do my expenses
- inventory the craft I've made
- post dd's bed for sale on a different site - nowt forthcoming from gumbush.
- mow front and back
Enough!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -

Dh's alarm went off at super loud volume at 5.55am. No chickens needed here! So he's gone, poor him. I got up and did a workout, during which dd came downstairs. Hang on - it's SATURDAY, so why on earth did she get up at 7! Poor thing was having a bad dream.
One lot of washing in the machine and another ready to go in too.
Top of sideboard tidied - not that anyone who doesn't live here would notice! But I know it's better.
Washing up put away, and bicarb and vinegar put down the plughole.
Now to tackle the dresser - requires a duster, which must be in a safe place somewhere.... Hmmm. Let's finish my coffee first...NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -

A mishmash of a day. Dd has been very emotional and I've lost my temper with her, which does not make for being a good mummy! Having woken up with a bad dream, that kind of set the tone for her day.
We missed dancing and had a quiet morning, which suited her. She quite enjoyed the fair and the bath I 'forced' her to have. She kind of agreed to do a 5 min dip, and I got her out 40 mins later!
Dh rang this evening - he was STILL working. Not surprising, but annoying, nonetheless.
I have completed 2 robins :T:T. When I realise the list of tasks for each (cut out body, cut out red chest, sew red chests to bodies, pin in hanging cord, sew round body, turn right way round, stuff, sew up gap, stitch on eye), it's not so surprising the time it takes from start to finish! And the ones I finished today hadn't had the red machine sewn on - I have had to do it after all the other tasks, by hand.
I did the inventory today and thought about doing an 'items to make' list, but decided against it for now. I'm enjoying what I'm doing, so shall press on to make enough of them, before 'filling' in the gaps'.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
A lovely day has been had here.
Dd woke up happy and throughly enjoyed kids klub. Lunch went down quite well and she has spent a good couple of hours - at least - playing out the front with a gaggle of children.
I, meanwhile, have baked, washed up, mowed front and back, made the weekend's robin tally up to 6, sent the required email and watched rather a lot of the athletics.
Dh will be home far too late for his own good, considering that he is expected to go to work tomorrow, as the stuff is broken. He must be soooo frustrated! And he has a 90 min journey home once he can leave the job in a fit state to be functioning this coming week. (the kit, that is, not him!) I don't expect him to be functioning much at all this week!
I have found a 'Jiggle free July' challenge which I shall endeavour to do alongside my usual workouts.
Time to call dd in and sort out her tea and tomorrow's packed lunch. I have already turned over to Cbbies in her honour.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
This evening, whilst pottering round the kitchen to tidy it up, I turned on my foot and a piece of glass cut into it! Ouchie! I hobbled outside where the light was better and had a look. The glass was still in there, so I had to get it out. Tweezers would have been a good move but were upstairs.... So I had to dig my nails in to get it out. I managed it in the end, which was a relief!
I have since thoroughly swept the kitchen floor and all of the downstairs - with my slippers on, needless to say. And once dd finally settles, I shall re-do the plaster with tcp.
Dh won't be home much before 11 and will be out again by 6.30. I've told dd that I'll wake her so that she can see him in the morning.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Dd has been well out of sorts today. I think she has had some sort of heatstroke as she came home just after 4 and stripped off, lay on sofa on top of a fleecy blanket with another one over her and didn't know what to do with herself. She hardly ate any food and had to be persuaded to have a drink. The forehead thermometer - which I know isn't accurate! - said she had a slight temp and that was after a dose of ca1po1, but after a dose of ibuprofen she had more liquids and a little food. Phew!
Now she is asleep with a hot head but normal hands and feet, but she wanted the duvet over her. I shall be monitoring her closely!
The reason I think it is heat related is that she went to school without a hat (I didn't take her this morning) and it has been a very hot day. She had PE where they were practising for the relay, followed by a fire bell, so back outside.
Anyhow, it is now pelting with rain! At least it's after 8pm so Wimbledon has finished for the day and the garden will have a good drink.
Tomorrow's to-do list is reasonable, tho may change if dd stays off school. At least the tennis will be on, and she quite likes it!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -

-make soup
-cut out and sew up more red chests
-check out the 'chili' material for a hanging shape...
