Dare I say it, but I was almost bored at work today. It only happens about twice a year though, and probably only lasts about 45 mins max. I wasn't taken for cover, my marking was up-to-date (and the work I collected in today I was able to mark during the day instead of postponing it as I often do, which turns a tadpole into a froglet) and I had no outstanding admin to do. So I half-planned an 'enrichment day' for the y9s!

And all that meant that I was able to leave promptly - though I bumped into a mum who I've not seen for months and as I've taught her 3 sons and entered 2 of them early for their Fr exams, we always have a lot to talk about! But I was still home earlier than anticipated so had time with dd.

The nsds are building up. I have chosen to lose a couple, but it was only to low spends. And tomorrow I'm taking a good friend out to p1zza xpress, as a bday present from last June! We have a 2for1 on the main, which'll limit the damage a little.

I have been reading a little about how a youthful mindset can slow down your aging. And the opposite too. I have realised that since dad died (can it really be nearly 2 and a half years already?!) And mum went over the precipice into vascular dementia and alzheimers and breast cancer resulting in a swift move into a care home. And dh turned 60, I turned 50 and dd turned 10 in the same year. And I truly feel that I have started to limit myself. And my current weight really limits my mobility and energy levels. I have 'made myself old' and seem to feel that it is all going to decline from now on. It is about damage limitation instead of joy, new experiences, fun and laughter.

Fifty is not old. Looking at many on my ancestors, I still have another 25-30 years ahead of me. Gosh, that's a lot. So, a mindset of how I was 25-30 years ago would be wonderful...

One to ponder. Just as well I'm seeing my counsellor tomorrow:rotfl:.

Wow! Thats a thoughtful post :) Fifty is absolutely not old! Mindset and weight are big elements of how we feel - I've come a cropper on forcing myself when I should have been kinder, thats how mindset has limited me, but I'm trying to work on it. Not particularly successfully, it has to be said, but I am :)

    Thank you karma.

I had a good natter with my counsellor about 'stuff' today, which was great. I also took a friend out for a super late bday lunch and we also talked about similar stuff. Upshot is that I want/need to do things for myself. Things that I enjoy. Possibly an evening activity.

My friend asked me: when you are on your deathbed, what will you regret not doing? My first -and only - answer was 'not having run a marathon'! :rotfl: My dad ran his one and only one aged mid-50s and I always thought I would do one too. I used to run regularly and could have done a half marathon at the drop of a hat. But that was several decades ago! My friend suggested signing up for a full one in about a year...

I got myself up early today and did my headspace. Then did 200 reps of the 500 rep w/o before waking dd. It felt good to get it done so early.

And this evening was dd's 2nd swim lesson. We'd talked about it after last week's awful time, and she was simply going to do whatever she was told to do, no questions, and do it to her best. So that she can make progress and move up a level. Well, it went muchbetter, she was asked to demonstrate something to the group, and she had several 'well done's. Phew. And while she had her class, I swam up and down the big pool. So I had a second blast of exercise :T.

If I am to run again, I need to weigh less and be more towards the gazelle end of the spectrum. I currently sit at the hippo end...

And I jolly well should sleep well tonight!

Hi apple, your comment about gazelles and hippos made me laugh!:rotfl: I just turned 50 and cannot believe how hippo-esque the past few years have been - will be following your mortgage and exercise progress :) ElmoR

Yep, it's easy to trend towards hippo-esque :) I gave myself a good talking to back when I was 39 :) and I haven't slipped that badly since, though it was a near thing - lost quite a bit on the runup to the cruise last June. Good luck with it, your friend's question is a good one - so is your answer :)

We recieved some icyland vouchers through the post. Without having to 'earn' them first, which was nice. So I've had a little outing there today to investigate whether we could manage to spend £30, or stick at 15...Well, I managed just over £31 and got 3x fish, ch drums, plenty of bacon, loads of froz veg, soya yog, and a few other bits. And got £5.75 off. Feeling smug.

Hi Elmo. You made me realise that I still have a mortgage! We could have paid it off last year, but decided not to. Which means that we have the money to do some work on it - when we eventually get around to it... We still have 3.5 years to get rid of it, and reckon we'll be ok for that.

Karma - it was about 6 years ago that I started to pick at food, as that was when dd was diagnosed coeliac. Prior to that, it was just me who was diseased, so I couldn't munch on the others' goodies. Anyhow, today I have been planning all sorts of things, including running home from work twice a week. In my head, I am pure gazelle :rotfl:.

Glad to hear the entrance exam went well for dd. How soon will you find out the results/options?

We'll hear from the posh schools sometime in feb. They let you know before the council does. We are trying to 'forget' it all for now as we can't influence the outcome...
