Glad you're enjoying making the bags Kinski, and that your daughter is choosing the material! I find the best fabric to make them is a lightweight curtain material, sometimes duvet covers are too thin especially if they've been used and washed a lot. I've made them out of shower curtains too, then they are waterproof and can be used for frozen stuff.

Managed a couple more knitted squares today: I know I should be getting on with other stuff but I've got so much to choose from to do, and I can get a square knitted in about 20 minutes, so get quick results!

    Total: 209 out of 500

She already has a couple of the bags, she's looking at the material so I can make the bags for others.

Oh dear, and there's me thinking she's not old enough!! Ha ha, I reckon 29 possibly is adult enough to sew!
Grand daughter might possibly be able to crotchet? one hook being easier to manage than 2 needles. I learned to crotchet quite young, but only to do a huge long chain!not the most useful of things! it was years before I got the hang of granny squares

My mum (or more likely my Gran) taught me to knit when I was 4 - in fact I can't remember not being able to. Don't wait until your granddaughter is older. Of course she will be frustrated, clumsy, will drop stitches but didn't we all start off like that?

Kinski, I think your little 'family' of bags is cute.

Mooloo, the Elsa dress is beautiful. I look forward to seeing yours when it's done.

Katiehound, please post a pic of your chair.

I've now finished 16 of my 'beads of courage' bags and have the other 9 cut out. And I still have oodles of fabric left - all set for the next lot. I suppose. I have cords in some but I will need to buy more!

But I confess I did buy a yard of fabric with puppies all over, ready for these. I have cords in some but I will need to buy more!

Does anyone else have things go missing? I did buy 3m of cream cord and I've turned the house upside down and can't find it! That's understandable 'cos it's wee, but I have also lost the April panel I embroidered for DIL's birthday on Tuesday coming. I had mounted it ready to frame. Now I have the frame, I can't find the embroidery! So does it count as stash busted or do I have to discount it as it's still lurking somewhere? ;)

  • I have done all my list now - 6 cushions made (3 were for my sister-in-law so not stash) and all the laundry bags complete.

I have collected up all the cheap yarn and bought a cheap washing line and am crocheting a circular rug to go under the drum kit. (you crochet around the washing line to beef up the rug). Anything to reduce the noise downstairs!

I do need to make some socks for my son (he has been begging for a while - one of his housemates has claimed the last pair I made). I then need to have a bit of a think about the rest. I have some coursework moderation to do over the next few weeks so things will be a bit slow for a while.

Back to work tomorrow - real bad Sunday/holiday blues :(

    Happy crafting everyone :D

The fabric has all arrived for the dresses now. So I must finish draughting the pattern pieces.
Yesterday I used stuff from my stash to make DGD a pirates outfit needed for school tomorrow. But it was a bit of a rush job, and no pattern. Not my best way of working, must learn how to do clothes without patterns one day.

I'm finally starting to make some inroads into using 'stash' that I've had for ages. This card was made from things that I've had for ever and ever. The Tilda images I've had for ages - I thought initially it was about two years, (but I've now worked out that it's more like three), which I bought in a Hobbycraft sale for a pound, but I'd never done anything at all with them. So, since I have a rubbish right hand at the moment (Tendonitis in wrist, thumb and it's affecting my fingers too - boy oh boy it's bloomin' painful!) - I thought that if I made something using those then perhaps I wouldn't loose too much sleep if it didn't turn out quite right. (Although I have to admit that when I started to use the Tilda things I realised that the reason I hadn't used them was because I didn't want to 'not have them' anymore. I hope other crafters know what I mean there! lol)

The green flower shaped cards were also something I've had for about (really embarrassed about this) four years and never used. Likewise the blue gingham paper.

Apologies for the blurry part at the bottom of the photo. I forgot to save the picture before I'd put the watermark on it so that I could put it on my blog. So I've blurred the blog name out so as not to 'promote' it.

I was a bit older when I learnt to knit, my gran taught me plain and purl the rest I learnt as I went along, I'm rubbish at crochet unfortunately I have tried but it never quite worked for me :o. I think I might just have a go at teaching her how to knit :T.
I'm lucky with the duvet covers I have as most of them have hardly been used at all, lots of bedrooms and no one to sleep in them, I'll dig a few out and only use them if they're in very very good condition, most of my curtains are thick so might not be of any use for the bags. I love the idea of the shower curtain, years ago I bought waterproof material to make dog coats with but I ordered the wrong stuff and it's to thin for the coats, it might just make a few bags though if I can find it that is :)
Bag no 8 :rotfl: which I quite fancy keeping.

I love the cards, they're absolutely beautiful. I'd love to see the frozen dress when it's done, I'd like to be able to do more on the sewing machine maybe if and when we move I'll get a better machine and some lessons. I wee remember my mum going out on a Saturday morning to buy material, she would make a dress in the afternoon and wear it out that night, I was always amazed that she could do that.

Keep up the great work everyone, Im hoping to finish a few wip's off over the next week, so hopefully it wont be too long before I can cross off a few more to my target and feel as if Im doing something as opposed to just making more wip's (hope that makes sense :o )
