  • I have been looking for a cashback credit card that pays at least 1% for a while. I ruled out shell as there is no garage near me and egg because I had a disastrous saving account with them.
I like the look of the Halifax one, but I have been searching on the comparison sites and Halifax does not come up, which makes me wonder if there are anymore out there I have not seen.
Thanks for drawing my attention towards the Halifax card; but as there are two its now a decision on which one.

The extra 10% seems like it is 10% of the 1% cashback you have earned?

If you do not claim your cashback during the first year then, during the thirteenth month after your account is opened, you will receive a bonus cashback amount equal to 10% of the amount of any cashback that you have earned.

So thats only 0.1% extra or 1.1% in total?

That is how I read it.

Which is why I applied for the 2% food & petrol cashback card.

Application was approved within seconds of pressing "submit", credit agreement to sign arrived next day. Very impressive so far.
  • Interestingly, it looks like they have some more variants planned...

    '5' doesn't work, so don't bother trying it. ;)
Well spotted mate - I can see the differences on 1, 2 and 4 but can anyone see the 3rd's peculiarities? It seems to be the same as 2.

No point really going for 4 as the BT deal isn't too hot, so getting #1 for specific usage looks like a good bet to me :T

    Well spotted mate
You get used to delving a little deeper after a while whenever they use a numeric suffix on the url. Mint used to do it regularly. So much so that we had advance warning if they were changing the offering soon. :D

This one's very subtle. ;) There are no introductory offers mentioned in the overview, which is confirmed by clicking the summary box link where you'll see "N/A" against all transaction types.
  • We identify a fuel or grocery purchase by a code which is supplied to us from the store where you made the purchase. Certain stores may not use these codes and therefore 2% cashback will not apply to those purchases.
OK, does anyone know how far "groceries" can be defined? Just looking at my usual spending, and MCC codes include
    • U.K. SUPERMARKETS, ELECTRONIC HOT FILE (not sure what a hot file is, but this looks acceptable)
    • MISC FOOD (self explanatory)
    • GROCERY STORES, SUPERMARKETS (ditto)
    • EATING PLACES, RESTAURANTS (not sure if this comes under the remit of "Wouldn’t it be great to be rewarded for the simple things you buy every day, like petrol, bread or milk?" though ;))
I could do quite well with this card - anyone know if restaurants count as Halifax' definition of food? :D

And !!!!!!'s an electronic hot file? Answers on a postcard to ASDA.

    Go to https://www.americanexpress.com

Click on "Our Cards" at the top.

Then, at the bottom right - "Already Know the Card You Want?" - select "Platinum Moneyback Credit Card" from the drop-down menu. You can apply through this route.
