    Barclaycard's new Ts & Cs arrived yesterday. There's no mention of an annual fee on my Morgan Stanley Platinum card (now renamed Barclaycard Cashback) but then neither Morgan Stanley nor Goldfish charged a fee for its use. If yours was not a platinum card, it may be too early to celebrate. Please keep us posted. You should receive your letter from B'card any day now.

    Mine was just a Morgan Stanley cashback card which I had for a few years until they decided to charge the annual fee of £20. This was written on the back of the statement so they had to go !!

    Have you noticed that at times credit cards are offering good cash backs to start with but as time goes on the amount of cash back reduces and then is restricted to up to £££, which in the long run loses us money especially when you calculate the APR.

    Martin is recommending Barclaycard Platinum Credit Card with Cashback (Top non-Amex). I notice they are providing six months free Gadget and Personal Possessions cover for three items up to a total of £500. On the face of it, this seems a good idea (e.g. I could add my iPod Nano, mobile phone and one other item). Barclays also say they will send out a reminder one month before the six months expires, which is useful, but of course, it's best you make a note of it just in case they don't...

    Any thoughts from other contributors?

    The Shell Citicard has been mentioned a couple of times in this thread, I'm particularly concerned about how it can only be spent on Shell purchases, how exactly does this work, do they just automatically pay off your next fuel purchase or what?

    My situation is pretty unique. I am spending about £900 a month on fuel, collecting the VAT receipts and claiming it all on expenses. For me the 3% cashback card, plus the coupons from the V-Power club card add up to a tidy bonus (My GF uses to coupons and gives me the cash). I must be the only person benefiting from soaring fuel prices.

    Are there any gotchas I need to be aware of?

    i have a normal egg credit card. is egg money card any different than a normal credit card? do i have to prepay into it before i spend?

    EDIT;

    i have found an answer to my own question. the fact that egg money pay interest on positive balances confused me. I assumed they would then charge interest on negative balances but this is only so when outside of the 56 days credit free period as most credit cards do.
  • I have an idea - would this work?...

    Is there a VISA/mastercard credit card that allows you to pay bills by American Express?

    I am shortly making a big purchase and have applied for a platinum cashback Amex, and was hoping to get 5% cashback on my purchase. However, they do not accept Amex! I was wondering if there was any other credit card I could use to make the purchase, that would allow me to pay the bill by my Amex card? I have a barclaycard, but they don't accept payments by Amex. I don't mean a balance transfer, because I understand I won't get cashback on that.

    If no such credit cards exist. Has anyone got any other ideas how I could make use of my Amex. Paypal maybe?

    Thanks!

    Sadly, you cannot pay off a credit card with another credit card without doing a balance transfer.
    Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right! :D

    Yes, I have had this happen several time and I won't change anymore. I think Amex will be good for the long-term and I just don't care about my mastercard spending anymore.

    Yes, I brought some PC stuff from Dabs and they don't take Amex directly but they do take PAYPAL. I use Amex for PAYPAL and it got around the situation.
