  • I've had an Egg Money Card for 18 months or so,and enjoyed this years March re-payment- We pay practically all our "bills" on it including my council tax! -The one bill I begrudge/hate/abhor- however I do at least get 1% back ......so shhhhhh! throw away that direct debit and receive your 12-16 quid back on your Egg Card unless you get a rebate for DD which we do not in North Somerset,....BUT YOU MUST PAY the card OFF EACH MONTH BY DDebit, I was suppried how much it mounted up,petrol,Tesco's,Homebase etc.etc...........The point is this every time I pay for something I get something back, pennies, shillings, florins, half a crown, pounds whatever -and I smile!! However do not ever never use this card abroad, apply for and bless Nationwide for their card for use around the world!

  • Barclaycards website is an absolute mess, they have loads of offers still live but not available in their call centre as often their internet team don't take the offers down, as long as the T&C in the application match the offer that is what you will get so following the links you can still get 4% until October, i think you can still get platinum 0% BT with a 2.5% fee if you find the link - somewhere on here, just look and apply online

Here is an update to the Barclaycard 4% Cash-Back saga.

If not interested, please ignore, and move on....

Well, I waited the 3 hours for the promised call-back from the Barclaycard Customer Services Manager.... No call received!!!

Well, I then waited 3 days.... just in case their was a language / communication issue between me and the India call-centre.
    Nope! no one called me!

So I phoned them tonight, again....

The operator has just told me, there was no record of my second call to their call centre!!!!
....and she has also told me that there is no record of their promised Call-back!!!!
    She apologised!

The advisor then told me that my Cash-back expires on the 31st August!!! Wow!!! An extra Month.... :T
.(...but still not the 1st October as detailed on their web-page. )
When I told her that this was a different date again, she said that the last operator must have got confused! umm you telling me something new, or what!!

....anyway she could not do anything and told me to write into BarclayCards ivory towers, and ask for the Cash-back to be extended.

Well, Its in the post tonight.
... I await the next thoroughly exciting instalment of the devious tactics of Barclaycard, with baited breath.

    PS. a tip.....
Its always a good Idea to keep the relevant web-link of pages whenever you apply for something on-line.
So if/when the company actually give you something of a lesser value, you can then quote them the offer you applied for and send them a copy of the link.

just to prove it. here is the Barclaycard link I applied with (showing 4% till October)...
    http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/products/apply/cashbacktandc440b.html
and guess what, they have now changed their current web-page to show the new 'lesser' offer....
    http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal-home/cards/platinum-hero/platinum-with-cashback445/terms-and-conditions/index.html

Anyway. In some sadistic way, I actually quite enjoy fighting these doughnuts.
But if I am boring the pants of you.... let me know and I will keep it off the forum.

    Cheers
    Mark

I am using the Shell Citibank CC which gives 1% cashback on everything and 3% cashback at Shell. With the current cost of fuel, a 3% cashback is quite a discount when I fill up.

    Very useful.

    Hi Mark and all,

I have got my barclay platinum card applied thru link in Lucy's post and I have got 0% interest for 9 months with 1.5% handling fee:-))) But maximum BT is £5000. Now there is nothing about cashback in the offer letter. I probably will get the sting when I call tomorrow.

But can someone explain this to me - this is my second BT and I did not come across this before. My offer letter says: Your available credit is 7110 and your cash limit is £2100 and is part of this credit limit.

Does this mean there should always be a balance of £2100 in the account?!

    Thanks in advance
    Geet.

No. It means that your credit limit is £7,110 and of that £2,100 can be drawn out of the cashpoint.

Thanks Richy Rich, but looks like my 0% promotional offer is only for BT so i may just have to forget the 2100!

I want to use a cashback card to pay for my petrol each month, about £150 maximum. Any recommendations? I currently have an MBNA platinum rewards card and platinum Barclaycard. APR isn't really an issue as im going to set up a DD for the full amount each month.

Im looking into this too. Any recs anyone?

We currently have cap one 0% interest, mbna platinum rewards.

You won't be getting a lot of cashback on fuel at the moment then:D

I have recently checked the moneyback values on my Credit Card statement and found that the figure on the statement does not reflect the measily 0.5% quoted as the cashback figure.

I have contacted Alliance and Leicester Card services (run by MBNA) and I was informed that every purchase transaction is rounded down of all pence, so for instance £14.99 would be rounded down to all transactions are rounded down to £14 and then 0.5% calculated for the money back earned.

Obviously this erodes the moneyback earned dramatically, particularly if there are 1000 purchase transactions with 99p rounded off.

I was told this is in the T&C's, but I am not sure. In fact the customer service staff seemed to be unsure themselves on how it works.

Just to add fuel to the fire, I have now checked the moneyback earned with this information in mind, and still find the figure incorrect, and of course on A&L's side, if this is happening to me, then it must be happening to lots of other people, and subsequently A&L taking the cream.

    Any clues???
