I have looked at bit at the Shell card. Seems like a good deal.

35.6 If you have failed to make a fuel Purchase at Shell in Great Britain within six months of the date of your last fuel Purchase at Shell in Great Britain, Shell Cash Back earned will automatically expire on a rolling six month basis.

I do not actually own a car, so I guess I need to go for another card after all.
In general, most cards have interest on purchases of around 1-2% a month.
Will this not offset the cashback totally? Or is there no intrest paid if you always pay off in full? According to the Shell site there is Interest from "transaction date" until "repaid in full".

I have a question about the Egg Money card...

I've set it up so that I pay off my full negative balance each month, by direct debit from my current account.

Does anyone know whether Egg guarantee to take this payment such that I will pay no interest? Or does it depend on which date the payment is debited? In my case, it will be debited 19 days after the statement issue date of the 3rd of the month.

I have yet to have my first statement, so can't answer the question myself!

The DD will be collected on the date shown on your online statement.

Just make sure that the DD is set up with your bank, before the first one is called.

After that, just sit back safe in the knowledge that it'll be claimed automatically each month and you'll never incur interest (so long as you haven't used it for BT's or cash advances, ie only for purchases) or pay late and incur £16 charges.

Also with Egg Money if you make a payment manually into the account before they take the previous month's amount due, they deduct that manual payment from the amount they take by direct debit.

    Hi,
I am not uptodate on credit cards, so any advise is appreciated.
I have had an MBNA card for years and always pay it off every month, I recently got a tesco one but have been disappointed at the returns, I am not really into their club card deals.

What I would like is a Cashback card that pays a fair rate (long term) and I am not bothered about an incentive for a few months.
I have been looking at capital one at 1% cashback, are there anymore I should be looking at.

    Thank you.

I like egg money because not only do I get 1% cashback but also receive 4% interest on my positive balance. Better than keeping the money in a bank current account and as long as it stays in credit I can also withdraw cash without charge.

Thanks for that, I'll give egg a look at. I must admit that i don't know anyone who has a positive balance on their credit card. I will look into that to as its not a bad rate.

Oh just one more thing if i may,
which would be the easier cashback card to go for, I have an excellent credit history but at the moment out of work, but my wife is working and she would be applying too. Would it best if i apply in her name or mine?

I'm surprised the Shell Citibank card isn't listed in the article. It gives 1% cashback on everything and 3% cashback at Shell -- and Shell garages are often cheaper than everywhere else even without the cashback. I've stopped using my Amex...

I will soon be buying a car and using about £6000 from savings, could anyone advise the best cashback card to pay for the car with? I will be paying off the card in full with savings. If I use a Amex card are these usually accepted at car dealerships?
