I will soon be buying a car and using about £6000 from savings, could anyone advise the best cashback card to pay for the car with? I will be paying off the card in full with savings. If I use a Amex card are these usually accepted at car dealerships?
I doubt if a dealership will allow you to use a credit card to pay the full amount if they have already given you the full discount. The problem you have is if you tell the dealership you are going to use a credit card they reduce the discount they offer as it will cost them money when you use the card.0 -

No, because of the fees.
Amex is even worse than other cards.
You could discuss paying some of the fees with the dealer.
e.g. if you are on 5% cashback then why not offer them to pay 2.5%.
They might go for it that way.
It probably won't cover their costs but presumably they want to do some business.0 -
I have just looked at a number of cash back credit cards. Each one appears to require an initial payment of about £124 (e.g. Capital One) as 'total charge for credit'.
If there is 1% cashback doesn't this mean that one has to spend £12400 before the outlay is recouped.0 -

This is based on, e.g., an example of spending £1000 on the card and then not paying it off immediately and allowing interest to build up. The example normally gives you the expected amount of interest you would pay over specific periods of time, 1 year, 10 years, life of clearing the balance with minimum payments, etc.
If you clear your balance each month then the total charge for credit is irrelevant.0 -

The Amex Plat CC offers 5% in the first 3 months and no annual fee. If you want a cashback credit card try to grab that one! Has Capital one pulled the Platinum cashback card? I can't seem to find a link for it. Is this why Martin is now recommending Barclaycard on the website?0
-
The platinum card is on the website but it doesn't now have cashback, so I guess they've changed that offer.
They are of course within their rights to change the offers whenever they wish.0 -
I have just been rejected by Capital One for the first time ever, despite no debts and a good salary. I don't understand this...... Could they be rejecting everyone applying for this great offer in the hope selling them a less attractive card????
Has anyone been accepted by Captal One for the 4% cashback card?0 -
If you've got a(ny) card already, it's worth giving the provider a ring. I tried to cancel an existing card to get the Barclaycard cashback one, which I then found out is only for new customers, but I got offered 3% cashback on the existing one. Result!0
