  • Certainly - if you can get the cards and get them in time. BT's aren't instantaneous and you can soon lose the benefit if you have an interest payment or two before it happens.

yes I have time set up it up if it is going to make me £200! From the research I have done it appears I would need to use a combination on Egg Money, Amex Platinum (unless another one is more profitable for one £12.5K purchase and then a 0% balance transfer car dot shift it on to...probably MBNA.

Is this right or am I missing something obvious that the pros on here can tell me!
  • Shell MasterCard from Citi. 1% of everything and 3% of petrol from Shell garages. Surely that tops Egg?

    Anyone know of a catch?
    Looks good to me!

Mortgage free due to an Employment Tribunal Appeal win. The ivory tower occupants tried to walk all over me.... that was a mistake wasn't it?

This look like a catch to me:

    " Redeeming your rebate
Is simple, just keep buying Shell fuel in Great Britain each month, and we will automatically credit your Shell MasterCard from Citi account with your accrued rebate up to the value of your Shell fuel purchase - saving you money every time you fill up!"

Amex. I use mine with PayPal.

Just in passing, if you use AMEX with paypal, BOTH AMEX and paypal will charge you for exchanging currency if your AMEX is not denominated in USD.

My AMEX (platinum cashback) is denominated in punds sterling

If you buy something in pounds sterling, paypal/AMEX converts the amount into US Dollars and then back to GB Pounds - the converted amount is always HIGHER than the original that was paid to the seller. I recently bought something for £500, but when I checked my bill, it turns out I paid £520 for it.

Once you have one of these cashback cards review the small print regularly. Years ago I took out a Halifax card with good cashback but they gradually eroded it so now it's a tiny amount. Similarly Amex Blue offered I think it was 1% originally, then it too got eroded away. So enjoy the 4% while it lasts - it won't last long.

    This should automatically be refunded.
If you have fallen thru the net then give Amex a call (number on the back of your card).

Twice I have been refunded same day, although they might want to put a claim in with paypal which might take longer for your amount.

i'm not sure this has been mentioned or not and am not going to search through 24 pages to find out so forgive me if it has.

anyway, i applied for one of the amex platinum 5% cashback cards and started using it. when i applied the woman told me cashback would be paid monthly, in arrears. turns out she was wrong and it's in fact annually. now that wouldn't be a problem except i'm leaving the country in four months and wanted the card for the three month bonus rate - expecting to get my money back.

is it just tough on my part?
  • My Morgan Stanley cash back card was taken over by Goldfish recently and approx 2 weeks ago, I got a letter from them to say the card was now being managed by Barclays!!
Not sure what is going on and whether the card is still a cash back one??
    Anybody know?

    Are you absolutely sure?
She didn't say "acrrued monthly" or something like that?
is it just tough on my part?

    Probably.
If she did tell it like you said then she was wrong.
You could make a complaint, you could ask for a transcript of the call.
Unfortunately I think at most you would get some compensation as a gesture of goodwill for her mistake and not your cashback.

Why does being abroad stop you getting the cash back?
I guess you might have to convert the currency but you should still be able to get it.

This is my first post. Just my story.

Last year i opened up egg money card to step up stoozing. As this was mentioned as the first step for transferring BTs. Rapid increases in the BT transfer rates up to 3% put me off. I got £115 as cashback in 1 year.

I applied for capital one got rejected. waited 2 months. knew my score was good from the credit reports.

Applied for amex and got one. I use amex as primary card and egg as secondary. So far so good. Most big shops accept amex. Small shops and some big shops.

Thanks martin and everyone on this forum. U guys are doing grt job.
