Thanks YB but I've just closed a CapOne account and believe I have to have the account closed 6/12 months before they'll consider me again.
I've never had a Capital One card Rich, but I've seen it posted many times that they'll treat you as a new customer almost immediately on closing an account with them. Personally, I think I'd leave it 30 days, but I'm sure others have gone back sooner. I certainly wouldn't have any qualms about re-applying if my old card was marked as settled with the CRA's.

Perhaps best to ring and try to speak to an underwriter?

The third credit source is Callcredit
    Their link is here: http://www.callcredit.co.uk/home

    Try
    https://www.annualcreditreport.co.uk
to get it for free (call credit).
I have had the odd email from them in a couple of years but not many.

Hi, I hope the same, but in my Morgan Stanley Platnium card statement (25 April), the summary box contains a Fees section which states 'no annual fee'

    I am very confused, hmm....

I get cashback with my card...do you with your platnium card?

    Hi boobbby,

I just called the morgan stanley plat cc helpline, they said there is no annual fee.

So is this 20 pounds annual fee an insider information (WOW! ), or the CS girl gave me wrong information:mad: ?

    Thanks

    p.s. Thanks Nightwatchman!

I applied for a Morgan Stanley platinum card early last year and was issued with what I thought was one. However, it turned out to be a classic card instead. Both are cashback cards, but the classic card is going to incur the £20 annual fee from June, whereas obviously the platinum one isn't - not at all fair!

Aren't there any other cashback cards out there so that I can avoid this? The only one that keeps cropping up is the Amex card and this doesn't seem popular at a lot of places.

I now have got rid of the Morgan stanley card and use the Egg money card.

Far better..you still get 1% cashback but better still while it is in credit you get 4%. Whilst in credit you can also use it to withdraw money from a cashpoint without additional charges. 7.9% if in negative balance, so not too bad. No annual charge.

    melbury,boobbby,

    thanks, that explains everything.

However, I think you got a better deal, because my plat card only gives me 0.5% cashback(if you get 1% with yours).

I now go with Egg Money too.

Another one is Capital One Master card, with 1% too, it requires you to currently have another card with at least 5000 pound credit limit on it.

I think the Capital one card also pays 4% for the first 3 months too (with a monthly cap of 60 pounds).

I have just been rejected by Capital One for the first time ever, despite no debts and a good salary. I don't understand this...... Could they be rejecting everyone applying for this great offer in the hope selling them a less attractive card????

Has anyone been accepted by Captal One for the 4% cashback card?

Sorry to hear about your experience Mark. I've been accepted, though it wasn't instant when applying online - I was given the message that my application would have to be considered. The acceptance letter came through in the post two days later. I've been in my current house for only a year, had recently applied for the BMI credit card (20,000 airmiles, thanks MSE), and am self-employed, so I wasn't surprised.

I don't know yet how much the credit limit will be. It's odd that the acceptance letter doesn't say, just that it'll be over £1,500 (the maximum spend you can earn your 1% on each month). I guess I'll learn when teh card arrives.

I remembered that I once applied for a Capital One card a long time ago, when they offered one of the lowest rates. But the credit limit they offered was so pathetic (about £1000) I sent it back after calling them to see if they'd increase it (they wouldn't). My other card at the time, MBNA, had given me a £12,000 limit so I just felt insulted!

I used to have a Morgan Stanley Platinum card (1%). I can't remember when they dropped to 1/2% but it was quite sneaky. Always good customer service through.

I also have a Platinum Amex credit card for the 1% cashback but there are so many places that don't take it, and their statements are so slow in arriving you often have only a week before payment is due. I do pay by DD but I prefer to have some more notice if a large sum is going out.

I hope to use the Capital One Cashback for daily spending and pay it off by DD in full each month. The initial 4% is a real bonus. I applied because MSE mentioned the advantage of applying to get free cover for identity theft.

    So thanks MSE.

I was also rejected by Capital One last year when I applied for a cashback card then - probably because we had moved house a few months previously. The letter included an appeals address, so I sent them a short letter pointing out my and my wife's annual income (not massive, but perfectly respectable), explaining why my address had recently changed etc. I included a couple of photocopies of pay and bank statements. A few weeks letter they sent me the cards (the correct ones too, not some lesser deal).

I have to say, of all the (many) companies I deal with, they have some of the least comprehensible "agents" on the end of the phone. I don't know which country they work in, but I have spoken to several whom I could hardly understand. Their admin isn't great either - they have failed to set up direct debits properly, got the statement dates incorrect also. I doubt I will stick with them once the cashback expires...!

Well I just applied for - and got immediate acceptance on - the Capital One card - this will be for use for general expenditures that would usually come from our Joint bank account on a debit card. Hoping it comes through in time for the OH's next monthly season ticket now.....hurry up with the paperwork Capital One! I already have an Egg card which I earn 1% on - as both of these have the cashback paid annually the money back from both early next year should pay some of the costs of next years holiday. Can't believe I'd not thought to do this before - Doh! Thanks Martin & MSE!!
