Wife just got accepted on an Egg Money card, and she wants to have Amex too.

How long should she wait, i.e. the gap?

    Thanks in advance:beer:

I saw mse suggest a new 4% cashback card plat b/card and I already have an oyster b/card so I called & said I wanted to cancel my oyster & get a platinum cashback card.
I was told that existing customers cannot do this !! I was livid & said that i would cancel my oyster card now then! She told me I cant apply for a new B/card for 6 months!!

I want to use a cashback card to pay for my petrol each month, about £150 maximum. Any recommendations? I currently have an MBNA platinum rewards card and platinum Barclaycard. APR isn't really an issue as im going to set up a DD for the full amount each month.

I have to say, of all the (many) companies I deal with, they have some of the least comprehensible "agents" on the end of the phone. I don't know which country they work in, but I have spoken to several whom I could hardly understand. Their admin isn't great either - they have failed to set up direct debits properly, got the statement dates incorrect also. I doubt I will stick with them once the cashback expires...!

Just had to have a chuckle at this comment. I used to work in the applications section at Capital One. I worked in Nottingham. That was a few years ago and they may well have moved this part overseas, but had to laugh.

Capital One are extremely strict on the credit scoring, the amount of times that I took applications over the phone and they were declined and I couldn't see any reason why they would be. Their business model is very sound though as they don't want to take on too much risk, plus it was a great place to work! I've never applied for a card with them even though my credit score is fine, I'm terrified of being declined.

Otter, I was told the same for my Oyster Card. I also told them I wanted to cancel. They said someone will call. After not receiving a call back for a week I sent them an e-mail through their secure website. Then a few days later I received a letter to say that they could not get in touch so would I phone 01604 549042.
I called and spoke to their Customer Services who said he will offer 3% cashback for 3 months.
So I suggest you do the same.
    Good Luck

  • There are lots of loop holes in the url's, the link is still live so you can get 2% cash back also if you are in for a quick spend you can get 4% until October but again this is not listed on the main site - cick on this link for a deal as it is as good or if not better than Amex (plus Barlcaycard is accepted everywhere)

    Lucy,

Although the link you gave us does indeed state 2% cashback, if you go to the Platinum Card page site via their main page, it states only 1% cashback, and also a 2.5% fee on balance transfers:

So I'll use your link if it's still valid! ;)

When you get your card, can you let us know if they are indeed still giving you 2% cashback- thanks!

That link leads to a 0.5% cashback deal?

    Cheers, Des.

I have just successfully applied for a Capital One card so I can make use of the 4% cashback for a short while and then the 1% thereafter. I would appreciate some advise please. Do you feel it's worth also applying for an Egg Money card or Amex or would I not get any further benefit by doing this? I am simply going to use it to pay for every day shopping etc and then pay off each month. Thank you in advance for all the advise and comments on here already..
