we have found that the time between receiving a Capital One statement and having to make payment is VERY short.

capital one seem to change like the wind.
I got a card in July and got 56 days interest free.
My husband applied in December and got a much shorter period with some "world" card.
So be aware of what they send you.
Good advice to ay by DD.
  • I received my Capital One statement today (dated 28 March) with payment due by 12 April - but I set up a direct debit on the activation phone call.

Be warned! Capital One's Direct Debit shift days earlier...

My statement clearly states the payment was due on the 5th of April, but their Direct Debit had gone through this morning 2nd of April 3 days earlier than expected. Furthermore, the Direct Debit took the full balance despite the fact that I had partially paid off some balance days ago.

So I ended up being overcharged more than £200+. When I called them up, they did not just decline to refund the overcharged difference, also kept arguing Capital One did nothing wrong by taking the Direct Debit payment days earlier than due day.

Unbelievable! Looks like such things will happen again every month.

Anyone wishes to make a complaint, here is the address you should write to:

    Executive Office - ERC Department
    Capital One Bank (Europe) Plc.
    PO Box 5281
    Nottingham NG2 3HX
    Vodafone sucks.

Looks like Capital One has withdrawn the cashback card. For new applications at least. I couldn't find any mention of it on their website any more. I already have a Capital One cashback card and haven't received any notification of any changes for existing cardholders. But my partner was looking for a new cashback card. Apart from the Amex intro offer (which she has already done), Egg Money looks to be the only worthwhile straight cashback card left.

I got caught by this too, however on examining the bill properly it does say.
Your payment of £XXXXXX will automatically be taken from your nominated bank account on or within 3 working days of 05/04/08, so you do not need to send a payment. However, if you do make an additional payment this direct debit amount may be reduced to ensure your account does not go into credit. If your account is overlimit, please send a payment today to bring your account back within its credit limit.

It is possible that your partial payment and the DD calculation overlapped which is why your DD was not reduced.

There is a massive global credit crunch going on.
Lenders have never been obliged to offer credit even if your credit rating is excellent.
Sometimes you can have a good rating but not be in their "target" market.

But, yes right now, lenders have some problems which might mean credit is now harder to come by.
Some (including me) would say this is a good thing and that criteria have been too loose over the last few years which is what has got us into this mess in the first place.
  • hi,

i'm looking for my first cashback credit card & need your help. I was looking at CapitalOne but they appear to have withdrawn their cashback deals.

i should have an excellent credit rating as this will be my very first credit card. i need the card for general shopping not just for supermakets or petrol.

Do you have any good suggestions?

    Hi
I just got my Barclaycard Platinum cashback card this morning but none of the paperwork mentions cashback. Before I activate it did anyone have mention of cashback when they got theirs or if I register on the website can I see it there?
    Thanks.
