I cannot point to legislation but i can point to Tesco, Morrisons, Waitrose Asda who are successful supermarkets who take credit cards.
I can point to ALDI not being customer focused
I cant point out Aldi's mantra, "The customer is always wrong "
"The customer is not always right" either. I've worked in retail long enough.0 -

How do you define customer-focused? By not accepting CCs their transaction costs are lower, so they're able to offer goods at a lower price. As a customer, that sounds rather good to me. I'm not convinced they loose many customers because of this policy.
One could argue they're not very customer-focused in other ways, either. Compared to Tesco: they whizz things through the checkout not giving enough time to pack. The stores are busy. There's no choice between different brands of each item. A Waitrose customer might be put off by some of these things, but an Aldi customer will have different priorities.0 -

Also Aldi/Lidl dont have all the fancy shelving and hundreds of staff you get in all the other supermarkets. As a customer i would rather have lower prices and a small brand selection rather than higher prices to pay for all their fancy shelves, staff to stand around and 500 different brand of beans to chose from0 -

Yet a recent Verdict poll, as communicated in Retail-Week indicates that more and more consumers are switching to Aldi (and accepting their payment terms). Their market share has increased to 4.3% according to Nielsen and they have 500 stores now.
Back your claim up with sources.
Let's face it - if you enter a shop of any description, you agree to their terms and conditions. Those conditions being payment method.
You are totally perplexed into believing that you correct - just re-read this whole thread. You will quickly notice that you are practically on your own with your thoughts on this.
Move on, try another shop. Your purchases at Asda will probably cost you £5-6 more per week, but at least you'll get your £2 cashback.0 -
Good on Aldi. Credit cards should be abolished.0

The typical demographic that uses Aldi to shop (for everything) are not the demographic that typically have wallets full of credit cards.
Therefore, that and the high processing fees combined mean that it makes no sense for them to accept credit cards.“Washing one's hands of the conflict between the powerful and the powerless means to side with the powerful, not to be neutral. ”
