current accounts that pay useful interest and debit cards that pay cashback can improve this situation, of course
but i am not surprised to see others saying they dont shop at Aldi on account of them not accepting credit cards0 -
Being prudent and following good advice from MSE we opened a a Santander 123 account for 3% savings interest. Part of the process we opened a credit card account for a good deal with cash back. This was the card refused 3 times. till the cashier enquired is it a credit card ? yes , we dont accept credit cards. Why do they have a different policy based on geography ? Aldi sell more than groceres, i have seen Spanners socket sets fishing tackle welding rods cement mixers chains saw drills etc
You would not get the cash-back from Aldi using your Santander123 credit card anyway because from a merchants perspective they are not classed as a supermarket! They use a merchant code of 5399 "Misc. General Merchandise", they are not registered as a "supermarket and grocery stores" merchant code as most supermarkets use.
Looking on the Santader123 website it states - 1% cashback at all major Supermarkets Including Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, The Co-operative, Waitrose, Marks & Spencer or Budgens plus many others. Note the word "Major" Supermarkets!0 -
For most people the savings at Aldi/Lidl will easily outweigh the loss of points/cashback from credit cards.
This is the whole point - that cashback comes in part from higher CC fees paid by retailers.0 -

i think that is right. and, on that basis, i am one of many who is, arguably, missing out: collecting my cashback and clubcard points, but paying more to do so.:o0 -
Wow so just because YOU don't live in Berwick and can't benefit from this anomaly you want to make sure no-one else does ? Nice !!
Odds of you succeeding rate somewhere along the lines of a snowball's chance in a furnace
I'd be more embarassed to be seen buying groceries with a creditcard than I would be having it refused at Aldi mind you. I've always felt only the fec kless use creditcards for groceries.
I am definitely not !!!!less yet I use my c/c to pay for groceries. The reason is simple; cashback with every use so good money saving. Every little helps0 -
ALDI is a load of rubbish isnt it... ?0
