Why does everyone think that THEY get to make the rules.

If you own a company then YOU can make the rules, otherwise you don't get to make the rules.
  • The hills are bare now,
    And autumn leaves
    Lie thick and still
O'er land that is lost now,
    Which those so dearly held
    That stood against him,
    Proud Edward's army
    And sent him homeward
    To think again.

    Berwick is occupied territory;)
I have a deep burning indifference

Perhaps Aldi realise that Berwick rightly belongs in Scotland.

(dons flameproof suit and exits at a fast run)
  • I have an outlandish idea: how about you stop whining?

Aldi can do what they want. If you don't like it, shop in Asda. Your cashback from your card will probably not make up the difference in price to be honest.

    Sigh.

The Tesco supermarket near me allows me to purchase a packet of crisps costing 50p with a credit card, but the smaller Tesco shop just out of town has a minimum order value for cards. Maybe I should write to Tesco HQ and demand they have a minimum order value in all of their shops and stop discriminating against people who wish to charge 50p to their credit cards.

Or I could decide that the only universal payment method for purchasing goods in England is cash, and stores are free to decide whether or not they want to accept card payments.

For the record, our local Aldi clearly displays "We do not accept credit cards" on the entrance door, along with examples of which types of debit cards they accept. I'd still take sufficient cash with me however just in case their machine wasn't working, or my card failed to work (unless I was buying something big like a Laptop, but then I wouldn't be buying it from Aldi)

I'd be more embarassed to be seen buying groceries with a creditcard than I would be having it refused at Aldi mind you. I've always felt only the fec kless use creditcards for groceries.

How presumptuous and judgemental you are with that statement.

I use a card because points make prizes... it's called making your spending work for you.

Please enlighten me as to how that makes me 'fec kless".

    Couldn't agree more.

Wow so just because YOU don't live in Berwick and can't benefit from this anomaly you want to make sure no-one else does ? Nice !!

Odds of you succeeding rate somewhere along the lines of a snowball's chance in a furnace :)

Ha! Thanks for the slight chuckle there. I don't feel embarrassed about using my luma credit card (high apr if you don't pay in full, mind) when paying for my groceries. In fact, I feel empowered about spending (no more than) £225 per month on my groceries & cashing in on my £9 cashback. And the remainder of the month using my VA amex to gain my airmiles.

I shall think of you and your embarrassment whilst I'm sipping my alcoholic beverage on my next discounted/free flight (depending on my spend this year).

    Cheers.

Being prudent and following good advice from MSE we opened a a Santander 123 account for 3% savings interest. Part of the process we opened a credit card account for a good deal with cash back. This was the card refused 3 times. till the cashier enquired is it a credit card ? yes , we dont accept credit cards. Why do they have a different policy based on geography ? Aldi sell more than groceres, i have seen Spanners socket sets fishing tackle welding rods cement mixers chains saw drills etc
Another spanner in the works for you, even if they had accepted your card you would not have got cashback ;)
  • If they refuse the credit card, just pay with a £50 note :)
