Does it not cost them the same in Scotland? (and for that matter BuT which is indeed an English town).I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -
I have complained to Aldi today requesting from Aldi that they allow credit cards in all Aldi stores in England or remove credit card use in ALDI Berwick upon Tweed to be in line with the other Aldi stores in England. .
So it would be OK to stop the good people of Berwick upon Tweed from being able to use a credit card so that you wouldn't then feel discriminated against?
Are you 15 yrs old?
They have separate policies for the stores that are run from their Scottish HQ, not which side of the border any particular store happens to be.
The Berwick store is controlled by the Scottish HQ because logistically it makes sense.Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
I discovered this is not the case the ALDI Berwick upon Tweed (England) does accept credit card payments.
Just do all your shopping at ALDI in Berwick on Tweed.
If you have to travel hundreds of miles, so be it. After all, using your 123 Credit Card, you'll get 3 % cash-back on petrol.0 -
I'd be more embarassed to be seen buying groceries with a creditcard than I would be having it refused at Aldi mind you. I've always felt only the fec kless use creditcards for groceries.
Not necessarily - some people pay their credit card in full and use it merely for cash back and to collect extra points (eg Nectar and Tesco).0 -

It does, I assume they have their reasons for accepting CCs in Berwick, Scotland and Wales, but not England-not-Berwick stores. It might be to do with when the stores opened, or what equipment is in the stores, or the different markets. It could be that the Welsh/Scottish+Berwick stores are managed separately, and different decisions have been made.0 -
If they accept the Tweed as the Scottish/English border then the main part of Berwick is actually in Scotland. It may also be the case that the Berwick store falls under the control of the Scottish regional headquarters hence the CC acceptance
Berwick is a little anomaly all of its own. I believe that their football team is the only English team to play is the Scottish leagueThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

yes but I was responding to the poster who said because credit cards cost more to process than a debit card.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -
I remember times when Aldi accepted cash only. And it was just about 10 years ago.0

Does this mean that the prices of the goods in the stores Scotland and parts of Wales and Berwick Upon Tweed that accept credit cards are more expensive than the stores in England to cover the cost of credit card use, if they are managed independently ?
I've no idea, why don't you set off on a tour of UK Aldi stores and do a survey?
