Also Gromit, don't forget just like you can take your custom elsewhere any store can refuse to serve you or anyone if they think you are being rude to their staff and if they are part of a town radio link system they could pass your details to other stores in the town as a disruptive customer.0

Depends on the attitude, tone of voice and body language, but it doesn't look particularly rude to me. It looks like a request.
If they were that bothered why didn't they call the manager to chuck him out?
but IMO they'd have to be extremely touchy to get upset about someone asking them to open another checkout. When I asked them to operate the empty (proper) checkout instead of walking around asking people to use the empty self service checkouts0 -
Your taking it all out of proportion. All I'm saying is that by doing more of the work yourself should be reflected in the price.
Don't worry it wont be too long before self service is the only option (think petrol stations) or you will pay extra to use the staffed checkout if a store keeps one.0 -
Just to put the margin thing in to perspective, Tesco have traditionally operated on a margin of c6% and that is currently running at 3.3%.
Sainsbury have remained at a constant c4% margin.0 -
All I'm saying is that by doing more of the work yourself should be reflected in the price.
It is - in products up and down the country - here's a few examples:
No frills airlines - You pay less for carrying your own baggage and putting your own rubbish in the bins and even taking your own sandwhiches.
Insurance - Mostly bought direct these days.
Alchohol - cheaper in a supermarket where you serve yourself rather than a traditional off-licence.
It's all over the place and mostly these companies are on very tight margins in the currently economic climate.
Few are raking it in and are desperate to save costs to compete.0 -

When Aldi tel me the customer is always wrong then ill believe they don't answer to their customers or me.
Running Lean and Mean is not an excuse for poor service.
Aldi do not display in their stores that they refuse Credit Cards.

house prices
car prices
grocery prices
all these change depending on the geographic location
Exactly Thank you for pointing this out. why do a Prices or geographic location determine acceptance of a credit card. By Aldi ?0
