You don't get to make the rules (unless you buy a shop and then you can make the rules).

Never said I wanted to make or change the rules. All I said is that I refuse to use self service as I've paid for a service and I wish to receive it. Staff have asked me before "Please can you use the empty self service checkout" and seemed surprised when I refused. When I asked them to operate the empty (proper) checkout instead of walking around asking people to use the empty self service checkouts they also refused and seemed surprised that I asked.

Its the same as if I paid someone to do a job for me. I wouldn't then do that job myself and still pay them. Nobody would.

    I don't see any issue.
They asked you something politely - you declined as is your choice.

    What's the problem.
    Nobody would.
I'm personally very happy to use self-service checkouts because generally the queue is shorter.
I'm not aware of having a contractual right to a service at the checkout, but nevertheless you've got what you wanted so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Do you object to people speaking to you at all? if their request is at some level logical?
The staff concerned were merely trying to reduce the queues for everyone and you had an option to decline. So where's the issue.

Now if someone had put a gun to your head or an arm behind your back or been really rude and insisted you used the self-service checkout then I could understand the complaint, but it appears they asked you politely?

If they wish to reduce queue sizes then it would be far easier to rip out the stupid self service machines that people hate and replace them with proper check outs.

I cannot beleive this thread, but as I am a bit bored and have just finished my lunch I thought I'd add that, as far as my experience goes, you can't use CCs in Aldi in southern Germany, Switzerland or the Alsace region of France either.

Scotland must be an un-european aberration

It's worthwhile noting that there are in fact two different Aldis. There's an Aldi Nord and an Aldi Sud. Oddly enough, here in the UK our Aldi is Aldi Sud, whereas in France it's Aldi Nord.

Well firstly I love them. I get to process my items in the correct order for packing so it's more efficient and they take up less space and reduce queues.
On what basis do you say peopole hate them.

As for replacing them with proper checkouts, I'm afraid the self-service ones take a lot less space, so you can't swap like-for-like.
Why not have a choice for people?
Which is err.....what we currrently have the moment in most stores.

It's a bit dictatorial to take away the choice of people that like them isn't it?
Surely it's better for you if other people use the self-service ones reducing the demand for the service you like.

I like the self service tills, even the new big ones in out local Asda which have a conveyor and everything so you can do a whole trolley of shopping yourself.

Rarely have to wait or have a problem with operation.

when did supermarkets charge you for entering them and using their services?

You have not paid for any of their services as you have not been though any checkout to pay for your SHOPPING, as far as i am aware their is NO service charge added to any supermarket receipt. if you can scan one and show on here where the service charge is added, so we can all see.

i prefer the self service checkouts especially if i only go in for a few things in a basket. why should i have to wait 10 minutes or more in a queue while the person infront empties their trolley full of groceries on the belt.
