I too am livid with Aldi. I went shopping there the other day and they refused to accept my two chickens and an old watch as payment for my groceries!!

Haven't they heard of bartering? :rotfl:::rotfl:

That's where you went wrong, it went up to 3 chickens and a used bath sponge :rotfl: :rotfl:

You are wrong It will not be inevitable more successful stores don't have a problem accepting credit cards.

The "more successful stores", as you put it, also charge more for their goods as they have bigger overheads.

The whole point of Aldi is that it is a no thrills store that doesn't have the bells and whistles of the other big supermarkets.

That is how they keep the prices low.

The Scottish stores (including the one in Berwick) are run from a different territory, and therefore have different standards and rules & regulations, the same as the stores in Germany are completely different to English stores.

also when you goto to most high street stores and read the label on the door about their cards it will say something like " paying by CC costs 2.2% which is included in the price of goods" so therefore even if you pay my Cash you are still being charged the 2.2% processing charge. so by a store not taking CC they don't have to increase their prices to cover this charge, so therefore a benefit to customers
I am so glad you have pointed this out to us.

Aldi do not clearly display this in their 2 stores local to me.
I have never noticed a sign similar to that you have mentioned on any stores I have visited recently.
Which Aldi store did you last visit please ?

Aldi could steal a march on Lidl and Vice Versa if they start accepting Credit Cards to buy their low cost welding rods and cement mixers with your groceries.

The other supermarket have a larger range and prices of groceries are lower. If they were not people would be flocking to Aldi wouldn't they ?
People do shop around and look for information on the best deals.

We shop at most supermarkets Tesco ASDA Sainsburys Morrisons Lidl and Aldi.

You are incorrect the whole point of Aldi is to make money.
Aldi is certainly a "No Thrills" store and definitely no frills.
By the way I am talking about Berwick Upon Tweed in England because I understand there are other Berwicks in Scotland over the border from England.

I'm not sure any of us will be able to convince you. Indeed, maybe you are right. But you must be very skilled to be so confident that the loss of 1%+ from their margin will be made up by profit from more custom.

Given your skills, I would strongly suggest you approach Aldi with a view to being employed as a consultant.

I don't think so what rules are different for a store based in England because its Boss (Mr Rumbold) is based in Scotland ? So if Aldi's in Dover say , was placed under the Bathgate Scotland department how would things be different ?
Please give me an example of what is different.

If you are correct then, Aldi please run all your stores from Bathgate Scotland!

For goodness sake ! You know now that Aldi don't take cc's in their stores in England. They're not going to change it just for you. The majority of people who shop in Aldi seem quite happy to accept this, what is the point in continuing with this post ?

An excellent point and I'm glad you pointed this out But Aldi do not listen to their customers and have poor customer service. I don't think they listen to anyone and that is probably why they have such a poor market share, poor customers service and bans and procedures that are based on geography. . Maybe they will be taken over like Netto ! was it by ASDA ? fingers crossed ?
Give your excellent idea of me being their consultant I would introduce the acceptance of credit cards as a 12 month experiment. I would ensure that prices and procedures were uniform across the whole of the UK operation. I would ensure that clear signs were displayed in all stores and a commitment to quality procedures throughout the whole business.
The most important part of any business is the Health and Safety of Customers and staff is paramount. I hope Aldi have a better approach to Health and Safety of its customers and staff than it does to it's Customer service.

Really? Is this worth your time? I'm not sure its worth my time replying to you. They don't accept CCs where you shop. Fine. Pay in a different way or don't shop there. You can decide. I like shopping in ALDI. Never had a problem with customer service. I appreciate that the store is run in a way to minimise overheads so my bills cost less. If you can't appreciate it, then shut up about it :P

We had a credit card refused at an Aldi store in Nottingham. Aldi's answer was they do not accept credit cards in stores in England. They will accept credit cards in their Scotland stores and in some stores in Wales but none in England. I discovered this is not the case the ALDI Berwick upon Tweed (England) does accept credit card payments. The Aldi website states no stores in England accept Credit cards . I have complained to Aldi today requesting from Aldi that they allow credit cards in all Aldi stores in England or remove credit card use in ALDI Berwick upon Tweed to be in line with the other Aldi stores in England. Why are the users of Aldi stores in England being discriminated against by Aldi ? The signs at two Nottingham stores do not include every debit card card they accept and I did not see a sign saying they do not accept credit cards in either store. It is extremely embarrassing to have a card refused at a till in an Aldi store.

    You are seriously weird.
