both these offer- No setup fees
- No termination fees
- Gateway included
- Merchant account included
Aldi could set up a Paypal card reader for 2.75% fees . I'm sure that Paypal would give Aldi a rate better than 2.75% for chip and pin cards.0 -
By the looks of it Aldi England and Aldi Scotland are run as 2 separate businesses as part of the Aldi group. Same way as Tesco UK is separate from Tesco China but all part of Tesco.
Maybe Aldi Scotland has a different merchant agreement with better terms.0 -

maybe Aldi would be able to negotiate a better deal if they include All UK stores
Aldi have decided that they will not accept Credit Cards in their UK stores, it is their business so their decision.
Also Aldi run their English and Scottish operations as separate businesses, Berwick Upon Tweed is part of their Scottish operations0 -

I'm not entirely sure how businesses just accept debit cards anyway. The application IDs on Visa Debit Cards and Visa Credit cards (And MasterCard compared to Debit MasterCard) is exactly the same. Has anyone ever managed to get a credit card into one of the terminals to see what it says?
Also I know it was against Visa and MasterCard's merchant agreements to just take one type of card, although that won't stop a big company anyway.0 -

the information that it is a CC or DC is in the long number, which is also within the magnetic strip so place that in a terminal at it will say its not accepted as its the wrong card.
yes it is the same agreement a merchant signs that allows a retailer to take Visa and Mastercard, but it does not stop either one of them saying you breach the agreement so cant accept their cards. ie. MC may stop you using their cards, but Visa may still allow you to use theirs, but 9/10 if one bans a merchant the other will follow as they do speak to each other0 -

Yes, you put your card in and the terminal says "Declined, remove card".
I do get a few things at Aldi, but I wouldn't do my main shopping there as they are not friendly enough. For example, you unpack your trolley onto the conveyor belt, the cashier just throws it past the scanner and ignores everything you say, you have to quickly empty the other end of the checkout back into the trolley* and then the cashier shouts the total and gives you a facial expression of "Come on, come on, I get paid by the customer!". Then you have to move your trolley to somewhere else so you can start filling your bags before putting them back into your trolley for taking outside to load up your car.
With Asda, it seems the checkout operators are more friendly, and they offer to help pack your bags, possibly savings two steps, but it does cost you more overall.
* - I'm sure if you didn't empty the other end of the checkout quickly enough that items would go whizzing off the end and onto the floor and the operator wouldn't care and continue throwing things at you. Or maybe that's just the store I visit?0 -

What does that mean? Can you please clarify for me?0
