Moving from Scottish Power to EDF

Katies mum,
I noticed when I logged into my EDF account today it said "your next bill will be on 17th OCT 2014".
It seems EDF only bill you once a year if you pay by DD.
If you want a bill sooner you have to put your readings in BUT then they reassess your DD.
With bills being bigger this time of the year the DD could only go one way --- UP.
I`m not going to enter any readings `til Oct unless asked to do so by EDF or if I`ve built up a big credit.0 -
Hi, funnily I looked at my account today to see if the gas has now been transferrred over (hadn`t as of Thursday last week).
Saw I had 3 months payments showing as a credit and was looking throught their website to see how often you have to read your meter. Many thanks you have answered the question for me. I`ll leave it as well and see what happens (they may send out their own person to read the meter! SP did once or twice from what I can remember).
I have just logged onto EDF and can`t see anywhere the date of my next bill!! Whilst SP were pains in the backside when we came to leave I think their website was a lot easier to understand.0 -
I have today received my first bill from EDF...they want to reduce my monthly payment from £120 to £98. This is really great, but am wondering if I should just leave it as it is? I have a debit of £42 on the account at the moment, hey said they will take £120 in May and amend DD from June.
I have never been told I will need to pay less before :-) Also we are hoping very soon to get a completely new central heating system. I`m assuming that this will help keep bills slightly lower - don`t laugh but our current boiler is 25 years old!!
What are EDF like at refunding if you do manage to build up a larg`ish credit?
2010 have you received a bill yet?0 -

Hi Katies mum, I received my first bill on the 16th April and it was spot on to the nearest farthing and covered the period from 18th Nov 13 when I switched to them.
They are also going to reduce my DD starting next month.
As I`m only £10 in credit after this bill, I was really surprised, although with the summer months coming on, it`s obvious you will use less energy and they seemed to have taken this into consideration.0 -
Hi 2010, glad to hear your bill is ok. Good news for you as well a reduced DD. Even though I expected to build up a credit in the summer, never thought they would reduce DD with a bit of a debit showing on the account. SP tried to increase my DD every quarter so its nice to see a reduction.0

I forgot to mention that I`ve never entered any readings since my switch to EDF.
They must have read the meters around the 16th April and that generated the first bill.
The other thing on the horizon is these new providers, Ovo and Flow Energy.
Both these companies could save me about £70 a year according to the comparison sites.
With the mild winter we`ve just had the energy usage is all out of sinc, so maybe their figures are too.
Also both these companies want your payments upfront monthly and also bill you monthly.
From what I`ve read on these boards they haven`t got their acts together yet on billing and DD`s being taken at the correct time.
Maybe it`s a case of the devil you know, who seems to be getting it right.0 -
They read my meter as well as I have not taken any readings either. I`m sure some of these other companies also have a charge if you want to leave?
I am happy to stay with EDF for the time being, as you say better the devil you know!0
