  • you said it isnt for living costs and it isnt for paying the bills.
if you are required to job seek full time then printing will increase, bus usage will increase, making phone calls will increase, buying stamps will increase, buying envelopes will increase etc. so maybe cheap if you have a decent income, not cheap if you are on jsa.
I ask because your posts don't indicate much of the old fashioned tailored CV plus letter and spec letters, they appear to be more one click and move on...

Can you give an example? How many sheets have you printed, how many stamps, phone calls etc say this week/month?

the last job I saw was in the newspaper, and I think the dog did it cos it wasn't me:rotfl:
  • whats travel to work got to do with jobseeking expenses while out of work? socialising? how many people socialise during the day? an increase in all those things in a big way add up to a big cost. yes alot of apps can be done via email for free these days but going fulltime will no doubt result in doing alot of specs and you dont always have an email address for the employer. you will soon run out if restricted to those you can find an email address for.
So not a problem now but *could* be in future. That's handy if you're looking for an excuse. If not, you *could* have a job before it becomes a problem. All those specs could be a result which is surely the approach any serious jobseeker would take?
  • i never said there isnt a jobseeking requirement. i simply pointed out thats different to the claim that its payment for jobseeking and i dispute the claim that it isnt mainly a benefit for being unemployed. if they changed the name of the state pension to the egg sucking allowance it would still be mainly a state pension wouldnt you say?
They haven't changed the name of state pension so that's irrelevant.

Which bits of the bold don't you agree with?
  • i am not saying that is the case for me now. i am saying it will be at some point. there is no need to go into why.
There is correlation between how long you've been unemployed and how long you've been job seeking. If you manage to keep internet for years whilst unemployed it's a good indication you can afford it. How long have you been job seeking?

its the work shy that give the do-gooders a purpose in life, or those will all be suffering depression as they have nothing to do.

it served the purpose to make a point that is understandable for most. so not irrelevant.

no, however long i have had the net at home makes no difference in my case. the time will come when i cant afford it if i am out of work. thats guaranteed.
