Then maybe look up their website and not use Yell.com Give me the name of one company you found on Yell that didn't have an email contact?I've trawled through yell.com looking for company's or other potential employers to send spec letters to and there are quite a few who don't have email addresses - - - actually
Why use Yell I don't know. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
if they get an email are they really going to spend time and money printing your cv? i dont think so. if they have a printed version in their hands through the post they might keep it on file. in an email it could be a click of a mouse and its gone without them even opening the attachment containing your cv.More like less likely to read and just put in the bin.
60 letters sent when on the WP in the last few weeks and no replies at all, where as when I email specs I get at least 50% reply rate.0 -

I stopped doing spec letters a long time ago AP, I'm not going looking on yell.com now.
Why use Yell?

You think they actually have a file with CV's in it?
Most people will create a thing call folders in their email accounts and hold CV's/emails there.
How many hard copy CV's have you send and how many are you on file with from sending these out? We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

You must have a company name at hand who you sent a spec to in the post? We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
being required to look for work etc has always been the case. changing the name enables people to take a different attitude towards it and the people who recieve it if they choose to but it is still fundementally the same thing.sensibleadvice wrote: »Irrelevant an moot.
JSA is what it says on the tin. Open then tin and you'll find stuff inside you'd expect to find like:- be able and available for work
- be actively seeking work
- go to a JSA interview
- JSA interview
- take steps to find work - eg improving your skills
- improve your chances of getting a job - eg get help on writing a CV, preparing for interviews, looking for work
....This is called a ‘Jobseeker’s Agreement’.
Your JSA may be stopped if you don’t follow your agreement and can’t give a good reason.
Do you disagree with any of these facts?0 -
I will say it again its a lame answer - look the email up.donnajunkie wrote: »if you dont have their email and they are too far away to walk to then the old fashioned post is the only option left. We’ve had to remove your signature. you can say you should have got a job by now if you wish but thats not what was being discussed. what was being discussed is being a jobseeker and having access to the degree that you need to be able to meet the jobcentres requirements.sensibleadvice wrote: »A quick look at your posts indicates you've been job seeking for several years yet still have broadband. It seems quite reasonable then, that if at some point you can't afford broadband that you will have had reasonable provision given for long enough and can't subsequently complain about your situation.0 -

I'm with Donna on this one, an email can easily be deleted without even having been looked at. At least a printed version through the post is going to be opened (99.9%) and someone is definitely going to give it a quick glance if nothing else.0
