The chance of success is more likely to be determined by the content of the CV rather than the media it's communicated by.
and also whether they keep it on file or not.

I'm with Donna on this one, an email can easily be deleted without even having been looked at. At least a printed version through the post is going to be opened (99.9%) and someone is definitely going to give it a quick glance if nothing else.
I disagree as all my emails have been read and I get replies yet none at all on the hard copies sent in the post.

If deleted and you have a brain and your email set up correctly you will get a receipt saying so if hard copy ends up in the bin you don't know.

I have thrown CV's away before at my last job that come in the post.

Spec CV's/Letters are not job applications though and if you can find the HO postal address you can find an email address IMO.
postal address in yellow pages. email address probably only if they have a website.
  • being required to look for work etc has always been the case. changing the name enables people to take a different attitude towards it and the people who recieve it if they choose to but it is still fundementally the same thing.
So you don't disagree with any of those facts and fundamentally JSA is now labelled correctly.

LOL Seriously what companies in 2014 do not have a website albeit basis if that's the case?

I do not know what you think addresses are only to be found in Yell

You are only looking at certain industries at one time not all types of companies in a particular area.

    They don't print it!
You think they actually have a file with CV's in it?

Most people will create a thing call folders in their email accounts and hold CV's/emails there.

How many hard copy CV's have you send and how many are you on file with from sending these out?
i have had calls many times several months after sending on spec. sometimes i get a letter saying we will keep you on file for 6 months. i have never had an email saying they will keep me on file. 90% of my jobs have been from specs sent through the post.
  • and also whether they keep it on file or not.
Of course, it makes perfect sense that crap cv's end up in the bin and well written ones with decent content attract enough attention to be kept for future reference.

    No email address.

Some employers ask for jobs applications (cv, cover note, downloaded forms maybe) to be sent by post too.

No email address would apply to all types of application in that case, Im not seeing the need for speculative apllications to be hard copy.

I will say it again its a lame answer - look the email up.
if they dont have a website i have on occasion searched for the company online and directories online usually only give the address and phone number. i am talking about small companies here.
