But travel to work will deccrease as will the need to watch tv, go out socialise etc etc. Are you going to tell me stamps are expensive? Or will a sensible proactive job seeker find ways around costs such as those listed in the thread above(and this site)?
whats travel to work got to do with jobseeking expenses while out of work? socialising? how many people socialise during the day? an increase in all those things in a big way add up to a big cost. yes alot of apps can be done via email for free these days but going fulltime will no doubt result in doing alot of specs and you dont always have an email address for the employer. you will soon run out if restricted to those you can find an email address for.

As Widow Twanky might say, 'Oohhhhhhhh yes you can'.
yeah, i suppose theres those who have less than 16 hours.
  • you cant be employed and jobseeking and claim it. its an unemployment benefit.
It's what is says on the tin and what it say on direct.gov website. I suspect you know that but don't like the terms so pretend it's something else.

You certainly can't not be job seeking and legitimately claim JSA.

Which bits of the bold don't you agree with?

Its a reduced cost of living, obviously. And all my applications are done via email.
  • i have the internet now but if circumstances change which they inevitably will at some point i am not sure i will be able to afford it anymore. that means i will be reliant on a 1 hour per day 6 days a week in the library to get the required several hours per day everyday done. everyday meaning sundays and bank holidays also. this is assuming a computer will always be available as well.
How long have you had internet? How long have you been job seeking? I see from other posts you're knowledgable on gaming, upgrades etc. Not saying that shouldn't be allowed but it's a bit rich to be able to do that and then claim it's difficult to afford internet.

i never said there isnt a jobseeking requirement. i simply pointed out thats different to the claim that its payment for jobseeking and i dispute the claim that it isnt mainly a benefit for being unemployed. if they changed the name of the state pension to the egg sucking allowance it would still be mainly a state pension wouldnt you say?

not all jobseeking activity is free and spec apps have to be done through the post if you dont have an email address for the employer.

i am not saying that is the case for me now. i am saying it will be at some point. there is no need to go into why.

It was a post initially to say what people have to pay for with their JSA.

The JSA can just call the number to see if you say you have been cut off.

Yeah I have the net for now or until I can pay the bill no more when the contract goes up in Feb so on the look out for a new provider at a cheaper price.
Any serious jobseeker would place high priority on internet access as a job seeking tool. If they get to a point where it's that or subsistence there's always other alternatives.

Some have said some don't have PC's, email or knowledge. That may be true for a small minority but it's highly likely that this minority has been out of work long term. Tech is cheap these days and most people who have come out of work will have had the means to obtain a PC and connection whilst in work which will naturally carry over whilst they look for a new job. *When* that is no longer an option there are plenty of others available to gain the relevant access.
