I read on Consumer action Group that a poster posted that she/he needs to do 35 hours Jobsearch a week, how is that possible? There are hardly any Jobs, some jobs need driving licence (but what if people don't have any licence, do their still need to apply for that positon to avoid a sanction?) Also what if jobs state need experience and some people haven't? do their need to apply for that position as well? This goverment really is rubbish, also another poster state that if you can't provide 35 hours a week for jobsearch then you could loose JSA  How is this fair on true JSA claimants who are trying very hard to get into work? :( The goverment should tackle cheats then true and honest claimants, and David Cameron said we are in this together, yeah right

I bet there's plenty more that are unemployed, some for a long time yet still have broadband.

They may well 'claim' they've had the line cut off when they haven't which shows the lengths some will go to to avoid seeking work.

You've posted many posts about how it's not possible to find free internet where you are. Whether that's true or not it's irrelevant to you because you have internet access.
It was a post initially to say what people have to pay for with their JSA.

The JSA can just call the number to see if you say you have been cut off.

Yeah I have the net for now or until I can pay the bill no more when the contract goes up in Feb so on the look out for a new provider at a cheaper price.

I think that is what the problem is, I don't know what it was like previously i have only know the 'sanction' culture. I have been told by others that people would actually get paid extra for going on a job seekers course etc:eek:

I agree that it sounds like the old system was too lenient and something needed to be done, however they seem to have gone completely the other way and made a system with no room for genuine error where claimants are so frightened of getting a sanction for the smallest thing.
yes if you were mandated onto a full time course that often involved working for your dole you got an extra 10 or 15 pounds. whats wrong with that? people should have got more in my opinion.
too lenient? when people say things like that or if they use the wording get tough it makes it sound like being unemployed is a criminal act. of course that is what they want people to think isnt it.

Where did it say that? And job seeking is pretty cheap.
you said it isnt for living costs and it isnt for paying the bills.
if you are required to job seek full time then printing will increase, bus usage will increase, making phone calls will increase, buying stamps will increase, buying envelopes will increase etc. so maybe cheap if you have a decent income, not cheap if you are on jsa.

But travel to work will deccrease as will the need to watch tv, go out socialise etc etc. Are you going to tell me stamps are expensive? Or will a sensible proactive job seeker find ways around costs such as those listed in the thread above(and this site)?

No, it's money paid with specific job seeking conditionality. Here's some of the relevant ones which you're overlooking.
To get Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) you must:

be 18 or over but below State Pension age - there are some exceptions if you’re 16 or 17
    not be in full-time education
be in England, Scotland or Wales
be able and available for work
    be actively seeking work
work on average less than 16 hours a week
    go to a JSA interview
    JSA interview

To complete your claim you must go to an interview at your local Jobcentre. If you don’t, you won’t get any JSA. If you apply online, you’ll get a text or phone call within 2 working days to arrange this.

At the interview you have to agree things like:

what steps you can take to find work - eg improving your skills
how you can improve your chances of getting a job - eg get help on writing a CV, preparing for interviews, looking for work
This is called a ‘Jobseeker’s Agreement’. You can take someone with you to a JSA interview.

Your JSA may be stopped if you don’t follow your agreement and can’t give a good reason.
you cant be employed and jobseeking and claim it. its an unemployment benefit.

The point is most people have Internet already so it doesn't cost any more and can't be claimed to be a barrier to job seeking.
i have the internet now but if circumstances change which they inevitably will at some point i am not sure i will be able to afford it anymore. that means i will be reliant on a 1 hour per day 6 days a week in the library to get the required several hours per day everyday done. everyday meaning sundays and bank holidays also. this is assuming a computer will always be available as well.
