Need help with car dealer lies

This.
As I said, you've got the two bits of paper the wrong way round. These guys sounds like a right pair of plums.
they're not the wrong way round.
The garage has just given him the full V5 instead of just the new owners slip,.. but going off everything else, it's probably the best thing if he wants the car registered in his own name.. they'd probably struggle to send it off themselves.
The other bit of paper they sais to send off to the DVLA will be the yellow 'i sold my car to a dealer' slip.0 -
If they do agree to fix it. When you collect, make sure the light has not just been disconnected and they have slipped the tester a few quid.
How would I do this? Would I have to take it to a garage to check it?
I wouldn't be looking to get a car back like my old one. If I did get back the full 2500 I would just get another civic, and probably get a better deal anyway.0 -

I'm surprised they haven't already removed the bulb.
This is where it gets into the "cowboy" territory.
Airbag light on is a fail. Remove the bulb, and the light won't come on then it becomes a pass.
You can tell if the bulb has been removed. When you turn on the ignition and all the lights come on with the dashboard, the airbag light will come on for a few seconds to let you know it's testing the circuit, then it will go out to let you know there are no problems.
Cars fail the MOT if the ABS light bulb is removed, due to the above test working with that as well. But removing the bulb for the airbag light will still be an MOT pass, regardless if it comes on with the ignition or not.All your base are belong to us.0 -
Its a Honda Civic 2002. Looking at the MOT history there was an advisory for the SRS light being on in the 2009 MOT test, but it doesn't appear again on any other tests up until now.
If I took it to a garage would they be able to tell me the price to fix it?
yes i am sure they would but may charge you for hooking up the digonostic reader, for me as the mechanic was a long time friend and trusted mechanic of mine and family he didn't charge me for it.
ask around family and friends if they have a code reader and hook it up and post the results on here and i am sure one of teh knowledgeable people will tell you what it is. or go to the mechanic you went with your previous car and ask him to do it.
at best they will charge for the time, at least you will know how much it will cost. taking the legal route will may serve its purposes can be very costly to you and time consuming. its really up to you.
for me it would be take it on the chin and be a very good life lesson and ensure in future i never repeat the same mistake.0 -
No code reader is needed. See my post above. All your base are belong to us.0

He's got the full V5 and he shouldn't have so that's wrong plain and simple. Any dealer would know that.
You might be right on the yellow slip v the green one but given the OP's experience it is doubtful at best!
The rest, i.e. they are prize plums, you seem to agree with. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
I worded that badly. they're not the wrong way round as in he should have had the full V5 to send back for his car (as the dealer won't want to wait weeks to get it back and have an extra owner.) and a green slip for the new car.
He should have a green slip and a yellow slip - not a full V5 and a green slip0 -
If you do not get a tax disc, you will get a fixed penalty charge in the post , also any Anpr equipped police car will stop you and call a dvla unit to clamp the car.
Poor sellers and excuses link to poor sellers do not remove YOUR legal duties to ensure the car is legal for the road.Be happy...;)0 -
The OP won't get the charge in the post. He's got the V5 in somebody elses name.0

I'm probably going to take the car to a garage I've used before to get the diagnostic done. I know it will cost me but I think it's worth me knowing whether I'm looking at a cheap repair or a complicated one. I'll also ring the dealer to see if they have chased up the part they have "ordered".0
