We're a week away from august, how's everyone getting on? I've still got a million things to do but most wi be completed at my crafty hen do tomorrow (if the girls can stay off the pimms!) and I'm sure we'll wing the rest.

    Are we all excited?

More or less, we have the usual last minute bits such as seating plans to finalise, orders of service etc to print but I THINK it is all coming together. :) :T :D

Having some SERIOUS bridesmaid issues.. for example, seemingly, she had planned to turn up to wear th £200 dress I have bought for her (not very MSE I know) and pose for pictures.. I asked her what size bag she would have so I can suss out what bits I can put in there and she told me she isn't planning to have one and doesn't see why she should buy one (and what exactly would I expect to put in there). Apparently she feels I am using her as a 'service' which she didn't think it was - I told her to Google 'being a bridesmaid'.

I feel VERY frustrated with her. She came to my hen night out (in Nottingham) with £20 in her purse!!! Knowing we would need a taxi in and back and were getting food (all of which she would obviously be expected to contribute towards) and then going for a good ol' bender. I ended up paying for her drinks all night!!   I wouldn't mind but of those of us who went out she is the one who lives at home still etc so hasn't got the kind of outgoings as the rest of us do.

We are meeting in a few minutes to talk face to face as I feel if we don't sort it out soon someone else is going to have to wear her dress and she won't be coming at all!!

OMG that's seriously awful. I would have dumped her as a bridesmaid on the spot! What was the outcome of her chat? The whole point is being the brides 'maid' and doing everything for her on that one day surely! Not really outwith any expectations of a bridesmaid to want to put things in her bag.

I had my hen night last week and it went slightly pear shaped. No one really wanted to come and one of my bridesmaids wasn't able to make it (due to family reasons which i totally understand). There was 6 of us and we went for dinner but BM had booked booths at another 2 venues and we didn't finish dinner in time (she only gave 2 hours for dinner in a busy restaurant on a Friday night). She then proceeded to go off in a strop about how I didn't want to do anything she had planned (I was actually having a great time in venue number 1) and that all my friends are stingy people with kids who don't want to pay for anything, she had paid £300 for the weekend (not sure how??) and oh how she couldn't expect me to know how stressful it is being a bridesmaid cause no one has ever asked me to be one. I lost the plot at the last bit and said no I don't know "how to be a bridesmaid" cause you never asked me, and stormed off :/ We eventually made up and enjoyed the rest of the weekend but it certainly tainted it somewhat.

The only thing we've got left to do is confirm the numbers with the venue and choose a fricken ceremony song and first dance!!! We have a shortlist but not chose the final ones yet. So difficult! So many songs we like.

Also on Monday my OH broke my hair thing for the wedding and I pretty much cried the whole day!! Somewhat over the top maybe but I bought it 2 years ago and cant source it now. Have ordered some bits to try and fix it but I'm not sure I can :(

Sorry to hear about your Hen Weekend going wrong - it is so frustrating when it doesn't go how you imagined but I think 'grin and bear it' really works in that situation. It was definitely the monniker of my Hen Weekend! I am glad to hear that you made up with your bridesmaid and I congratulate you on biting back worse retorts such as 'being a bridesmaid is stressful? try planning a wedding when your bridesmaids are awful' lol!! :rotfl:

I know and I really did think about dumping her on the spot - I probably would have if we weren't so close and her dress was a standard off the hanger - I would then just have looked at my similarly sized friends lol!! To be honest part of my concern about a full on fall out is that we work together in the same Department and I don't want things to be awful.

She didn't say much at our meeting tbh, I did a Kofi Annan and just apologised if she felt I was being snappy and expecting too much but that I thought she had a naive belief of what being a bridesmaid as an adult meant and that she hadn't participated in any of the things that I had expected her to and it had upset me. She didn't apologise for a damned thing and I am putting my make up in my Mother's bag. I have bought a small toiletry bag to shove under the table for bathroom times with my personal items (we have done hampers for the toilets with everything people might need and I don't want them diving into my bits lol!)..

Sad news about your hair thing - is there anyway of fixing it? Even if its a 'bodge' job at least to get you through the day?

Well - I have 5 days until our wedding. One of my bridesmaids dresses isn't back yet as they were all delivered last week and one didn't fit (well, 2 of the girls live abroad and won't be in the country till Wednesday so more than 1 might not fit..) so thats gone back. Hoping to get it back tomorrow. Our wedding rings are still wrong - seriously upset and have been messed around loads. Messaged the company today and told them if the rings aren't going to be with me today I want a full refund and the number for their complaints department. I just know we're going to end up with rubbish rings as we are so close now we have no choice and no money to spend until the refund comes through. I feel seriously stressed. I am spotty and my hair needs a toner from being coloured. I could cry ALL the time atm. Boo!! Can't wait till Sunday (the day AFTER the wedding) the way I feel.

You know what, I hate apologising when I know its not my fault. Seems we have both had to do this with stresful bridesmaids! arg!

What a difference a few days makes. I ordered some beads on Etsy from America which turned up in a week and are the right ones so have managed to fix it :) All that stress and it was easily fixed jeezo!

Nooo I'm sorry you feel so rubbish and thats terrible about the rings. I totally understand why you would be annoyed about that but maybe you could buy some cheapie placeholder rings and sort that whole mess out after the wedding? Hair should be fairly easy to fix. Are you having a make up artist on the day that could sort out your blemishes?

Hope you feel better today and that your not super stressed out for the wedding. Good luck :)

Yipppeeeeee!!!! I MADE IT!!! I am officially Mrs E!!

Well, the rings came (not on time and not without a whole bunch of stress..) they are still wrong but I can deal with that now that the pressure is off. Hair toner went on and it looked fine on the day and my make up artist did such a good job I still had make up more or less intact the next morning (I was wayyy too tired to take it off - naughty I know!).

Do you know what - I was sooo super chilled out on the morning of the wedding everyone commented how laid back I was!

We had the most special, amazing and wonderful day - the rain held off more or less all day and everyone more or less behaved themselves (save a drunken friend and brother-in-law hooking up at the end of thenight!!) and I will never forget my magical wedding day!

The best bit of all? Going back to the hotel at the end of the night with my new husband!

So - good luck to all you remining August lovelies - I wish you ALL the best and all the happiness in the world. It really is strange but with 70+ people watching us in Church, the only thing I saw was my husband.. although, my attention was caught by a beautiful butterfly and I couldn't help but think of the people we've lost and that being their wonderful way of being present on our big day. Still brings me to tears thinking about it now!

Good luck ladies - don't forget to report in when you can! xx

22 days for me - I commented to a recently married friend how it's getting so close and everything still feels half finished - she said "don't worry, that's normal, that feeling does go away........... the day AFTER the wedding" - Thanks!

Still finishing the stitching of the sleeves and train of my dress

Running out of money too - think I'm going to have to borrow some from my mum for the cash to put in envelopes for damage deposits etc on the day :eek::eek:

all in all, i'm basically just :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
    At the moment
Don’t try to keep up with the Jones’s. They are broke!
  • My daughter got married last friday 8th august, everything went well, except the weather was awful, thunder, lightening and sheet rain!!! But it didnt spoil the day, she looked amazing and I got loads of compliments on my outfit too! Her nan, (my mum) aged 86 even managed to get there even though she said she was too frail to go, which made the brides day as her beloved grandad passed away 3 years ago, she got the best seat in the church, in her wheelchair, the first person to see the bride! Good luck to all you other august brides - everything will turn out fine! xxxx:j
  • I can't believe that today, 6 days before the wedding, I've had a day guest drop out cause she couldn't get the time off work. Bearing in mind that the invitations went out in April grrrr!!

However everything is going swimmingly, was at the hairdressers yesterday and getting my nails done tomorrow. Currently making the last few flower pom pons for the ceremony room and on Tuesday I'm going to make the fudge for the wedding favours. Thursday I need to take all the decoration the the venue then its the home straight
