  • Put a few more items on eb4y last night so hoping i'm more successful than last week. Today was a SFD, had frozen broccoli with my tea and was impressed so thats going to become a regular freezer standby along with frozen berries to stop me needing to go for extra topup shops.

    SFD 6/25
    Lunch to work 6/18
    Food £46.93/£100
    Foodbank £0/£3
    Moneymade £0.42/£80
  • Oh dear, Mrs Brownbear I am so sorry to read how your OH is behaving. How selfish. We'll all come round and tell him - it's not fair when you've put your heart and soul into looking after and trying to help him. Grrrrr.

And AutumnLeaf I hear ya! Until LBM in mid Aug I was spending approx £90 every 4 weeks for all over colour, cut and blow dry. It was bright red so needed 4 weekly apps otherwise the fade and roots were awful! I have gone cold turkey since then (after one app to dye it a boring brown just before LBM) so I can grow it back to natural shade. I am also growing it long to save on cutting costs. I have now not been to the hairdressers since Late July - that's 3 and half months! It's not looking too bad, a bit of a jumble of colours, but I try not to look!

Anyway, spendy day yesterday as we got some bits for new kitten. SFD today.

Right, off to dish up veggie sausages and mash as DH is home from work now...
LBM Aug 2013 - DEBTS AS OF THEN £25,150  now: £0 :j

  • Just checking in - another nsd yippee!:j

Had a good day - work went well, not too busy and lots of fun. Off to a great toddler music group tomorrow (all budgeted for) so another nsd coming up. I'm on a roll now!

  • Oh MrsBrownBear, I'm sorry to hear you're having such a rubbish time. Being a SAHM is a huge adjustment, and a major part of that is finding the right balance between all your responsibilities. It does sound like the balance hasn't been right for you for some time, you mention baking for your husband when you really want to be with your children. As the person at home, it is up to YOU to set the balance. Please remember that the "being with your children" part is the bonus of staying at home (apart from maybe that hour between 5 and 6pm when they seem to turn into mini-hurricanes ;)) and if you want to be spending time with them then that's exactly what you should do.

As long as everyone is safe, warm and well fed then everything after that is a bonus, gf treats included! You are doing brilliantly to have made a stand, what you are saying is completely reasonable and I hope you manage to stay strong.

  • Checking in with SFD 8, hooray! Also gave away baby clothes to a Phillipino lady today for relief effort for the Philipines disaster. So that is another bit decluttered.

I might end up spending tomorrow though as I am out of paint and badly need a new paintbrush. If I wait until my next planned spend day I will loose several days of work which would be a bummer. I'm painting my eldest daughters bedroom so she is currently sleeping with me in my bed and she's all legs - kicking legs at that - so not much room for me (or baby when she joins the party! Buuuut I'm keen to keep to the challenge will see if I can do some other bit of work to put off buying the paint/brush.

Tomorrow there's a child's activity to pay for but that is within the rules (you sign up for the term but pay as you go, I've set aside the whole terms amount so just taking what I need).

In terms of hairdressers I too spent a fortune on my hair but never really got the colour I wanted. Pregnancy put a stop to my colouring in the end and my hair is now all my own colour. I've got long wavy hair and only cut it twice a year (saddo). Think I get away with it... I use a hair salon on a major uni campus where I used to work/study and pay £23. If you've got a proper campus nearby it might be worth taking a look. My campus also had a green grocer and butcher that came on campus once a week with great prices.
Finally had my eyes opened and I am ready to tackle my debts!

    hey all,

Glad everyone seems to be feeling a bit more positive today. I've had a shocking work day but can't wait until Wed at 5ish when hopefully all the stresses will be over (fingers crossed).

Today was a SFD and took lunch to work :). Also as if someone was reading this thread, a parent called up my department looking for a tutor for their child :) Luckily all my colleagues declined and I jumped at the chance so that should be £25 a week extra for possibly the next 6/7 months :)

Can't wait for next weekend already!
