  • Hello Fellow Chickadees,

So, the scores on the doors are thus:

Groceries: 187.52 / 180.00 [defeat well and truly admitted – some fairly big ticket stuff at very start of month. Am going to keep under 200.00 now]

    NSD: 8/25

Extra income: 51.25 [sold some old silver jewellery. Photos taken for Ebay so hopefully will be able to make up the rest after my visit home]

    Lunches: 7/20

    Gym Visits: 4/12

Alcohol Free Days: 5/25 [not as good as it could be but consumption much decreased!]

In other news, I have exceeded my credit card busting goal! I phoned for a balance to double check there was nothing outstanding only to be told there was a £123.75 credit on the blinking thing! Turns out I hadn’t factored a previous payment into my calculations thus I had overpaid so I used it to pay the hairdresser on Saturday and now plan to use the money budgeted for that to buy an annual membership to the gym [I do use it regularly] at the start of next month. It will cost 18.15 p/m as opposed to the 24.99 I’m currently paying so a saving of £82.08 over the year.

Bit of a money dilemma this month too. I budgeted 80.00 for the hairdresser. I go every other month for a cut and colour so it is a big expense. And it’s just gotten even bigger! My stylist has been promoted and now charges 90.00! My dilemma is this: I can afford it, she always does a really good job and I think I’d be looking at 70.00 at least anywhere else [not doing trainees as my locks need consistency!] however over the year this is 540.00. I could go on holiday or a month's mortgage for that! Hmm.

Anyway, sorry to bore you with my hair chat when others clearly have actual problems. Since when did selfishness and insensitivity become symptoms of coeliacs? Am most unimpressed.

Back to work for the week now. Gym visits and packed lunches are the order of the day and there's plenty of food in the house so should be spend free til Friday.

Can you? As you said that's a holiday or a mortgage payment over the year and 2/3 of your credit card balance. I know you said your locks need consistency but could you not risk it for a few month and train yourself a trainee. I'm sure after a few times with good instructions she would do an excellent job just a lot cheaper.

  • Thanks Thriftylass. CC paid now and mortgage more than covered - I would never put holidays or hair in front of that!

I think you may be right. It's normally a treat but TBH, I didn't really enjoy it this time knowing it was so expensive. It may be time to investigate other options or space it out a bit further.

    Morning,
Took my food bank donation down to the toddler group as they take the donations down to the church and found out that the donations actually go to people in the town not the nearest major city as I thought. Good to know I'm helping to support local people.
Also on the way back I found an in date, sealed in packet sandwich by the wheel of my friends car. I can only assume that someone dropped it but obviously I don't know who. Not wanting to waste anything I took it home. There was nothing else I could really do cos apart from me in my friend there was noone around.
I've got a few items to post for ebay but apart from them it's a NSD.

Well checking in as didn't over the weekend. went out Friday spent tenner.

Sat and Sun were SFD, stayed in re-sealed bath Sat afternoon,Sunday sorted my kitchen cupboards out and tidied garden. Needed milk but held off until today so today the purse will have to open, need bread as well.

Made use of all the veg in the fridge yday - soup made and brought into work. Livened up with a splash of chilli sauce. Made a sponge pudding with blackberries at the bottom, so yummy ate the lot.

Freezer and cupboards still looking full. Dentist Weds which is going to add to my credit card at least 95. Have also smashed another tooth so will be more.
Feeling glum I seem to try, budget reasonably well but nothing even goes to plan.

As my fixed mortgage rate, ends next year, need to get to grips with my credit card, in the next six months and stop breaking teeth ;-(

Autumn leaf used to spend same on my hair, I have lots of it!!!! Now just get it cut every couple of months 15.00. Colour it myself costs a tenner (need 2 boxes) every 4 weeks. Ok it hasn't got highlights but to be honest still looks good. Tend to buy nice shampoo/conditioner when on offer.
Those prices are just a rip off.

Phew, just caught up with everything that's been going on.

I'm declaring today SF already as I am at home and have no intention of going out and being tempted!

I'm in the garden today, planting bulbs and clearing up and I have to say that it's putting me in a very good mood, nice to be out in the fresh air.
I must clear out the veg patch and get it dug over ready for a nice bit of frost to break everything up.

    Right, Here are the figures:

    Food 155.78/500
    NSD 6/25
    Income 10/100
    Christmas presents 100/150
    Travel cards 36/50
    Petrol/Parking 2/50
    Declutter 0/50
    Clothes 189/200.

Got to get earning some none soon!
    Trying to keep in budget.

I have recently had this exact same dilemma! I love my hairdresser. I have been with him for 3 years and in that time followed him through 3 salons. He was steadily increasing from £80 to £90-100. I first eeked out the visits by changing from my bright red which required 4 weekly trips to re colour, to purple then increased those from 6 weekly to 8 weekly. I have now had to with deep regret give him up completely as we simply cannot afford. I felt terrible telling him as he always threw me free stuff in and would do the odd re colour for free etc and we get on so well. Like you said it is a little treat, a trip out. But when DH pays £8 and was wanting to take up a new hobby at £39 pm and have a extra £30 for alcohol in the grocery budget how could I justify. I also used to go for my eyebrows waxing and various other beauty treatments. Every year for an annual event I would go for a spray tan, waxing all over, shellac nails, HD brows etc. This year I did my own beauty and tan.

This leads me on nicely to what I was pondering this morning after been to the docs to have my ear looked at (I have an infection and antibiotics now). I pottered into the shops to buy some medicines and get my prescription to see all the Xmas trees. Normally, we go to our local garden centre and buy a real one. We have the decs and stand. Last year we got a 6ft rather than 8ft. But it's still £60-80 (I forget exact figure). Now wondering if we should get a fake one? Can we justify paying that much for something that we will be taking to the tip a month later?

  • Hello everybody! I am getting a little bit sleepy now..... I am leaving here at 1500 on the dot and I have beans soaking waiting to be used for a chilli tonight and maybe some burgers if I can squish them... but I think I will be having a nap first...

SFD under my belt as I won't be going anywhere later today as I am so tired and I have nothing to do AND more importantly LLL is away until Tuesday and I want to make use of the living room without a game show on TV or the dog harassing my cat...

More from me later - need to walk around as I am about to fall asleep...

Fyggy - you can get some really nice artificial trees for the price of real one. We've always had artificial. As long as you've got the room to store it for the rest of the year, go for it.
