Hugs MrsBrownBear, i know it's no consolation but think men are just missing a part of the brain. Like when my OH says oh i'm so tired got up with DS this morning at half six. Yeah like i did the last three weeks before work although im meant to have a lie in every saturday. They just see things compleyely different and there is usually not much you can say or its nagging. It sucks. If he's been around today he should how long that all took you. I just wouldnt bother baking any more for himsnd tell him why if he asks. Sometimes i think we are just with men to make us stronger and test our resilience

  • MrsBrownBear - sounds like you should let your OH sort out his own food for a week? Or will that result in a blow. Grocery budget? At any rate being taken for granted is not on!

Most of my weekly budget is taken up by either paying extra to ensure it's gluten free or cider (at £9 a go for alcohol per week) most of the stuff I buy for the kids is from the value range - but to be fair they do not complain but I do get annoyed when hubby has branded stuff like Magners e.t.c that are just for him - I hardly drink anymore. I spend so long in the kitchen preparing food from scratch which sometimes I would love to just buy a jar instead, just to save some time to be with my children on a weekend, but the gluten free stuff is so expensive. For example, gluten free spaghetti cost £2, the spaghetti I buy for me and the kids from Aldi is 23p and taste really good.

As everyone can tell, I am well and truly cheesed off.
  • Checking in - today was a nsd! Hurrah! Aiming for lots more this week. Got a massive food delivery today - using a £15 voucher off. hopefully I've planned it a bit better so won't run out of lots of things like last week.

    Night night!
    Oct grocery budget £368.40 / 600

Well I have already told him that if he want cakes or biscuits then they will be brought. But he will have to decide if he wants cider or treats - I am not cutting back anymore to accommodate his diet. I would say nearly 40% of my food shop is just for him. But as usual I will be my fault for over reacting.

Being gf is a pain in the bum.

If your OH is diagnosed with something that requires a gluten free diet he should get a prescription for his basic food items. But I know some people follow a gf diet for other reasons.

Also I find many sauces have a gf version on the normal shelves, it just means you have to read all the labels. If you need any advice, I'm happy to try and help.

Spot on. They just don't get it. I wouldn't bother either. I've giving up saying anything to mine because it seems like nagging.

Damn right you shouldn't! Rule in our house is if you want treats you buy them yourself! 40% is a huge amount on just one person.

    Well hello there NOers!

This is my first check in. DH and I have been away from the 1st until yesterday on our pre LBM holiday. Had an absoulutely amazing time and DH keeps wittering about booking another trip in Feb. It'll cost £1000 and has to be paid for by end of year. So not happening. He's kinda half serious, half joking. Kinda frustrating though when he puts me in the position (all the time) of being the one to say no. Holidays. Takeaways. Etc. anyway!

I feel like a bit of a cheat as I am reporting a massive 9 SFDs. All within tight and tough budgets for hol spends. Today was a spend day- Lidl shop.

    Other budgets run 27th-26th
    Food- £87.51/£140
    Fuel- £125/£150

    Money generated- £40/£80

Working on the other parts of the challenge. Bagged up some clothes for charity shop. Will also see if I can get much for some CDs, DVDs and books from selling websites, otherwise they'll go to charity too. Some decluttering will be good.

Right, that's all from me for now. I am in bed. Full of cold and an ear infection (from diving holiday) so need to try get in at docs tomo to see if I need antibiotics (for the ear not cold!) as I currently feel dizzy and like the ground is moving all the time. Don't feel safe to drive. And due in work tomorrow night. Eee.

    Keep at it guys :T

Yes - He does get some via prescription like fresh bread e.t.c but some of the pasta isn't very nice - he is a coeliac. I have in the past spent along time looking at labels and found some really nice sauces, only to then have changed the ingredients, it's never ending. Also some sauces contained very high salt so cooking from scratch I didn't have to add any salt. I found some of the expensive branded jars to be gluten free and rarely did they change their ingredients.
  • Thank you NSK, you made me smile....so tempted to throw a book at him. I really do feel like giving up. I don't think I want to be a SAHM anymore, I want to go back to work.

Then start looking into it! You are not just a SAHM. I swear these men get complacent and don't realise just what they have married / commited too. You were working when you met yes? So why not start looking at it...? Or study..?? But I would suggest having it out with OH first... they can be dense creatures that need the bleeding obvious pointed out and he might not even be aware of how you feel or noticed it..? It will take team work to get you back to work ( child care costs etc ) so talk to him and tell him (don't ask) and see what he has to say for himself.

Or maybe one day give him something with accidental glutein added and see how he feels when you don't have his back. Might appreciate you more after that..... teehee!!!
