Damn right you shouldn't! Rule in our house is if you want treats you buy them yourself! 40% is a huge amount on just one person.
Tell me about it, it would be more if I had to buy GF Bread as well but we get that on prescription and it's free as he has an underactive thyroid too which does mean free prescription for life (we live in England). I dare not get ill as I would have to pay for mine.0 -

You were working when you met yes? So why not start looking at it...? Or study..?? But I would suggest having it out with OH first... they can be dense creatures that need the bleeding obvious pointed out and he might not even be aware of how you feel or noticed it..? It will take team work to get you back to work ( child care costs etc ) so talk to him and tell him (don't ask) and see what he has to say for himself.
Or maybe one day give him something with accidental glutein added and see how he feels when you don't have his back. Might appreciate you more after that..... teehee!!!
I was made redundant in July this year - I was in the insurance industry working for a small family company for nearly 6 years - I had been in the financial industry for nearly 14 years. I have always worked (except when I was on maternity leave). Childcare is really expensive and it was for the best I stayed at home as any new job was alot less pay and we do not get help with childcare. I have been helping out at my child's school as I am hoping to retrain to become a TA, but I need to wait to see if my youngest gets in too before I commit to a course and will not know till April next year. But at the moment I help out two mornings a week and the headteacher agreed to support me when I do my course which is a bonus.
Re Food - I felt I was saving money and my sanity by cooking just one meal for all instead of cooking separate meals. The kids are loving the homemade food and with me being at home I could do it. I felt my children are eating a variety of foods and are less fussy. I just going to carry on doing this but without doing the gluten free treats. They are so time consuming and expensive. I'm done.0 -
Sorry I haven't checked in the last couple of days, it's been a busy few days. I will definitely try and catch up on everybody's challenges.
Had a very spendy day yesterday but got food, petrol and a woolly set for DS. DH also got his spending money for today and some other entertainment things. On the plus side I sold my old pram today so made £55 to go with the other £10 I made on Friday :T. I'm slightly addicted to selling on fb but it's better than last month when I was buying :rotfl:

oh and giving him gluten is not a good idea as his thyroid levels are affected. With me ensuring he has a gluten free day had brought this thyroid level readings from 9 to 1.5 in a month.
(But tempting!!)0 -
I leave work in 12 minutes and counting.. I can't wait to get home and showered, fed, food prepped for tomorrow, hair roller'd, bins out, cat fed and back up at 0500. No rest for the wicked. Sleep well Chickadees and I shall see you all in the land of nod....;-)“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. MrsBrownBear, I took voluntary redundancy when I was pregnant with my son. It was the best move all round for us as childcare and fuel would have made it not worth my while esp as the offered role was 5 mornings, and 90 minute round trip.
I work nights in a supermarket now and although it's exhausting it works well for us. It won't be forever and since I have left my career I feel quite lost but I'm sure I will eventually find out what I want to do.Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
 Just crawled out from underneath my cosy little rock again.. And feeling a lot more sprightly after 'hitting The Debt Free Wannabe wall' Saturday morning! Your responses were very much welcomed, so thanking you
To date, I have 31 litres of fuel remaining for the month and enough food to see me through until December. Another SFD achieved on Saturday but money spent yesterday on food bank contributions and also £10 on food items which I have decided to add to my leisure budget. The latter purchase was for ingredients to make batches of soup, pasta and a stew for a good friend who is currently working long hours and skipping meals. The homemade ready meals will save time and provide some hearty goodness I hope!
Mrs BrownBear You are doing a sterling and selfless full time job already as a housewife and mum in taking care of everyone in your household but it sounds like you could do with some taking care of tooMaybe you should tell OH that you feel under valued and taken for granted.. Showing appreciation and thanks for your time and effort (from which he is benefiting) is basic manners and costs nothing at all.
Abundant Happy belated Birthday wishes! Hope you enjoyed
Mrs GSR, Stewby, Tiptoes DB I like the Oxford Dictionary's definition of the word 'journey'; 'a long and often difficult process of personal change and development'. Getting debt free has definitely been a steep learning curve and this very experience has certainly taught me a lot about myself and my resourcefulness that I would otherwise not have learned.. So there's a silver lining there somewhere
Off to sleep now, my bed is calling!

MrsBrownBear wrote: »Yes - He does get some via prescription like fresh bread e.t.c but some of the pasta isn't very nice - he is a coeliac. I have in the past spent along time looking at labels and found some really nice sauces, only to then have changed the ingredients, it's never ending. Also some sauces contained very high salt so cooking from scratch I didn't have to add any salt. I found some of the expensive branded jars to be gluten free and rarely did they change their ingredients.
I'm jealous that he can get things on prescription! I would have to pay for each item separately for me! That's why I decided at the start just to eat differently, and go more for the 'meat and 2 veg' approach. DD gets stuff on presc as she's a littl'un, but only likes the bread! I do get other stuff for baking, so I admit I get to enjoy the goodies she provides!
I tend to shop at Aldi, and now know more or less which sauces I can use. I try to keep food simple, as DH isn"t gluten-free but he eats that way, as the consultant said we needed to be a gf household. I'm lucky I have such a lovely DH, especially after reading recent posts!

Good morning!
Today shall be SFD number 9. Need to post an item I sold on ebay (prob only make 3 quid after fees etc) but that is paid for by the buyer. Also forgot to mention, I did the food bank donation this Saturday when I was out and about for the shopping. Going to the post means I got my wallet with me - DANGER- but I prepared enough lunch and snacks etc to avoid temptation.
Just back from the post office. Oh I am so done with ebay. Had a starting price of 4.99 and offered free postage (on some recent advice to have the edge) rather than start at 0.99 and have 3 quid postage as I might not get any higher bids and now also pay fees on the postage now. Anyway, it was classed as a wee parcel cost £2.60 to send so after fees I probably made only £1.50. Annoyed.DEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/250 -

Not massive at making money yet. Managed enough points to cash in for a £5 amazon voucher and a £10 high street voucher. Also had an amazon offer where if I bought at least £25 of gift cards, I'd get a £5 gift card. Bought one for Hubby (as we'd be using amazon to buy pressies anyway) so I'm £5 up! Lost a SFD for it though
ETA: Just bought some arty bits for neices' xmas pressie, another £12 spent. Well, I'd already sacrificed a SFD anyway0
