SFD no 14 today for me.

Went over budget yday with my shopping and spent 43.25 had a 5 pounds off coupon as well. Got a few relatives to feed this weekend, but my freezer looks healthy now till end of the month. Good news I haven't had to get any petrol so far this month and may last till end of the month :)

Plan a sfd tomorrow, Sunday may involve a coffee out, hanging around watching a half marathon so will be cold, haven't got a big enough flask for everyone:(

Hi EyesWideopen - I'm sorry you had to do an emergency dash to the hospital with your little one. It mush have been a very worrying time for you. I'm glad to hear that everything is okay now. :)

Thanks Kerfuffle (love the username!) :o, it was a little scary but mostly whilst I was home on my own. Once my daughter was in the hands of the doctors I felt calm. They were all wonderful and I am very happy with the care bubba received.
    Good morning,

Eyeswideopen hope your baba is ok again.

I also just bid on 2 maternity jeans on ebay (incl postage less than £10) because my last pair is getting to tight and I have got another 3.5 months to go. Needs must.

Thanks Thriftylass! She is better now with antibiotics, thankfully :)

It's a shame I'm in Scandinavia as I've got quite a lot of maternity clothes after my maternity (still wearing some of them to my shame - not shifting this excess weight anytime soon I think :o). Unfortunately, postage will be criminal so your probably better off trying ebay for now. We might not be same size anyway either come to think of it :rotfl:

I share the feeling of being down with those of you who are feeling a little blue. I just my payday on the 20th and am short nearly £200 this month... I've got some emergency funds in savings which will have to be used. I am struggling out of overdraft and into the black and controlled annual budgets (too many "surprises" in quarterly water rates and so on). I know I will get there and when I do things will be a lot easier but until then it is incredibly disheartening to have nothing left over on payday. Will just have to work harder at it! And remember how much worse it was in 2011 when hubby hadn't had work for 18 months and we were just about to move to different countries for work. We are in a much stronger financial position now :T

Sending positive vibes to one and all!
Finally had my eyes opened and I am ready to tackle my debts!

Eyeswideopen, sorry I meant to reply to your post as well, sorry! That must have been so scary for you, glad she is on the mend now though, booo to overpriced hospital items BOOOO!

Just received the final letter from the PPI case I have been trying to fight for the last year and a bit, apparently it wasn't missold and as it's pre 2005 they are not upholding it. Sigh, I can't be bothered to fight it anymore. I was told I had to sign in two places but it wasn't explained to me fully, the fact is they have my signature next to the box and that's proof enough. Never mind. My word against theirs.
In other news my work have made a mistake with my holiday meaning I have less time when I should have more. I've spent the morning on the phone trying to sort it out and feel pretty rubbish now to say the least.
The numbers haven't changed very much bar the shopping. Might manage tomorrow as a NSD but that will be it for me.
Overall, despite my mood I am pleased to see my account has more £50 in it this near to pay day, that my two savings accounts have double figures and CC1 is lowering down. If I have done that well in two months then what can I do in 6 months!
Personal debt free date is 26/4/14.
I'm off for a nap now while DS sleeps, have a good day everyone!

  • EyesWideOpen glad all is well now, phew!

Not checked in yesterday as a super late night at work after super stressful day led to me and DH going our for posh pizza. We got a free trial of a taste card at work, so one mains was free with that, so it was not too bad cost wise... but it was also required in lots of ways as I was feeling very urgh, and we needed some treat time after the week we have had (rows about clingfilm and budgets, work being crazy etc etc) It was worth the money in relationship quality time. I will claw the money back elsewhere and we'll hit our targets. We are at a comedy gig tonight which was paid for before LBM, and haven't got time to come home from work and eat then go. In the old days that would mean dinner out before hand. I have now packed a 'car picnic' to eat before instead! some 50p french bread, cheese, cheap pate etc. yum.

Re all the talk about upbringing, we had a traditional working class upbringing and you didn't buy stuff unless you saved up for it. We always had less than friends but I am not materialistic at all. I have always been like that, and never really in much debt - always scared of banks and credit cards and money. OH's family are odd as half of his siblings are in massive debt, and half are loaded... his parents seem to be like mine - save and not spend much on things. Can't work it out.

NSK I well recommend recording EVERY spend on spreadsheet - makes it really clear where and when in the month your money goes too. We use different colours for fixed and necessary spends and non fixed spends. I also add comments to make a point at times e.g. £5 spent on snacks and then DH's name so he knows it was him!!! ouch!

Have a good Friday night people

  • Good Afternoon one and all. Proper late check in for me as I have been chitter chatting to come wonderful colleagues for hours. Two of them really and have garnered some good advice about my career and future.

EyesWideOpen I am terribly sorry your little is under the weather. Hopefully she gets better soon with the anitbiotics and I didn't realise you weren't in the UK. Make me wonder where everyone else is now too.

I am here at work until 1900 at least but I am about to pop out to Tesco's.. clearly blown the food budget this month and am re-jigging the spreadsheet for December to accomodate paying the CC off in total as I have no cash left at all now. OT this weekend so want to ensure I have adquate provisions for the few days work and for next week as well.

Yesterday was an SFD at least...

Getting freezing here. A colleague is off to Australia on Monday, another has left for South Africa tomorrow, another sold his house and is leaving to buy a pub in some little village somewhere, a fourth has another job with a very prestigious company, ........dropping like flies here.

Makes me even more determined with this money saving malarky...

    Over and out for now......

    And forever Onwards!!!

I tried to do the same but I do think it comes down to where you shop. I went to the posh supermarket and got beans, tinned mixed veg, tinned potatoes, tinned mushrooms, and pasta and it was £3. I felt there were a decent amount of things but not to make actual meals. I do think it depends where you shop though, I'll be going elsewhere next time as I think I will get more for my koney.

Hi MrsGSR - I agree, I had to do the purchases in a local supermarket as opposed to the one in the bigger town which is a 1 hour drive away. Food in this country isn't as cheap as it is in the UK so that doesn't help. Your very next post mentioned porridge oats and I realised I could have got much more for my money if I'd bought some of those, ($1.97 for 1kg) so porridge oats from the cheaper supermarket is my aim for next month. Yey I have a plan :)

    - I bought something quick and easy for tea last night from the supermarket and afterwards I felt bleurgh as well. I think it's as much to do with buyer's remorse as it is to do with the c**p I just ate _pale_ Why do we keep doing this to ourselves? <<shakes head>>

I'm not planning to do too much today, Hubby has just got home from his first night shift so I have to be as quiet as a mouse whilst he sleeps before he goes for his 2nd night shift. I don't want to go out as that will incur costs so I'm going to have a very relaxing day reading, store-cupboard-inventory-taking, meal planning and shopping list making.

Weatherwise - very bright and sunny, and a chilly -15oc. At least nothing is falling from the sky.:)

Bid on two jeans on ebay knowing i'd only get one which cost me £7 incl postage and still doubt my decision. Gosh since when is 7 quid too much :). There were times i thought 25 quid for jeans is a bargain, lol. Did the weekly shop today too but not sure about nymbers as i need to separate it from christmas stuff i bought with it. Will update sugnature on Monday.

OH will go out for "a" pint. At least i can paint in peace.

Evening all, thank goodness it's Friday!

Today was an unexpected spend day as we discovered last night that our youngest dog, who is three legged, had developed a fluid filled lump on the elbow of his only front leg :( Toom him to the vets, after researching it on the internet, and the vet confirmed our guessed diagnosis and we now have medication but it cost £60 (put on ccard until payday)

OH and I have had a disagreement and he has gone out, so I treated myself to chips from the chip shop :)

Looking forward to a quiet weekend, think I'm going to cancel my night out tomorrow as I really don't fancy going so I don't want to spend money on going (and I don't have any money)

    Hello hello!

I am enjoying some homemade mulled wine as I type. Tesc0s value red plonk which came in a litre plastic bottle you'd expect water to come in! Cheers MSErs

I have been in work for the last 26hrs of 45. So secured another 2 SFDs. So I'm now at 18/25 SFDs. I think I'll come in at 24. :j

Bank balances are looking pretty healthy this close to payday (Tuesday). Infact have £40 in my account which will be assigned to probably Xmas gifts fund.

Chin up MSErs. We're on the home straight now. I have some thoughts in response to some comments I've seen I'd like to share with you all:
I have been on a weight loss journey these last 18months and often you'll see comments from fellow weight lossers saying "Oh I've given in and eaten a load of crap. I may as well have that takeaway later/start again tomorrow/Monday/next month" etc. I don't believe this is a good attitude to take. It's kinda like saying, oh shoot I dropped my phone and cracked the screen, I may as well stomp on it and smash it completely. Not being harsh, just sharing my own self motivating thoughts.
