  • Good morning MSE'ers,

Have just got up (nightshifts) so this is my morning :o

@ PurpleJay, sorry to hear you need your gallbladder removing. I had mine taken out about this time last year. If done through key hole it's a really simple op. My advice to you though would be not to underestimate the effect this 'simple op' will have on you, after all you are having an internal organ removed. I looked at as having a few little holes in my stomach, one tube cut and a sac removed, believe me my body didn't see it that way

Please don't think I'm trying to scare you as recovery is quite straight forward but my mistake was not being mentally prepared for it! My only other bit of (unsolicited) advice would be if your working at a desk in the six month period after to remember to stretch often so your internal scarring becomes flexible and doesn't give you any chest pain, yoga is brilliant for this. Good luck with it :D

@His Missus.... hope your not feeling the LYNX effect :rotfl:

@TipToes, I keep all my receipts paper-clipped into the back of my spending diary for quick reference.

@Stewby, fingers crossed for you both x

This month is going really quick in our house and everything is running near enough to plan, I'm a little bit over on some of the budgets but that's ok they were pretty severe to start with. October was an expensive month for us so this month needed to be tight to keep us on track for Christmas, all in all I think we've achieved that :D

A while ago someone (possibly abundant ?) posted a link to The Slight Edge pdf, I kept this on my lap top for inspiration but the OH seems to have deleted it. Is there any chance someone could repost it as I'm finding myself very much in need of the inspiration/motivation right now...I promise not to lose it this time :)

  • Purple Jay - yay for your ratties! I have six ( more than I ever planned, was never going to go above four, but circumstances conspired...) boys who work very hard to eat me out of house and home and to - ahem - personalise everything for me!

Today is a spend day for me - had lunch with a friend but was really good and only had soup and not a tasty tasty halloumi burger! Bought £9 worth of food shopping but used Nectar points to do it, then I bought a microwave this afternoon using double-value Clubcard vouchers!

Got a £5 payment for the eBay panel thing through (which I was admittedly surprised about - I just assume these things will never really pay what they say!) and was handed a free energy drink in town. I must have looked as tired as I feel! :rotfl:

Really glad you're feeling more positive Avogirly, and feel free to rant, MrsGSR. It;s good to vent, but it's also good to remind me why my singledom is a good thing!:D I have so much admiration for anyone trying to fight this fight with unhelpful partners. I could not have done what I'm doing now when I was still in a relationship - I wouldn't have had the co-operation, and without that I would just have given in and stuck on as I was. Keep going, you're doing brilliantly!

  • HUNGER GAMES IN T- 10 minutes... YEAH!!!

What's worse.. Being at the cinema on your own or waiting for someone else to do something before you do?

    Guess which one I am...:-)))
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".
  • We want a full review once you're finished NSK! I'm hoping to see it in a couple of weeks (via free cinema tickets from a friend who works at the cinema)

Avogirly - Glad you're feeling a little better today. We all have those days where it all just seems like such a huge mountain to climb, why bother...then one of the peeps on here comes skipping along, picks you up, points out the good things, reminds you of your progress and gives you a nudge back up that mountain towards an even greater perspective! The top will be worth it!! :j

MrsGSR - I can fully empathise with an OH who is not quite on the same DFW page. Please feel free to rant! I am lucky in that mine and my OH's finances are separate and that we do not live together, but I am slowly nudging him towards a more DFW mindset, very slowly!

HM - Love the ranting to the cats!! I think you summed them up perfectly regarding their attentiveness around meal times!

Stewby- Good luck to your other half on their interviews!!

Well today has accidentally turned into an unplanned Spend Day  to the tune of £2.89. I have been after a customised badge for my friend's little one's birthday (which is in a couple of weeks), I went to purchase it yesterday during my Spend day on ebug, and the listing had ended. I contacted the seller and they were about to embark on a house move and would not be relisting for another 2 weeks- gah! However, they kindly emailed me this morning and said they would make the badge up for me if I purchased today. :) Super happy, it will go perfectly with the customised card I've made him and will be easy to post.

Right, I best get changed for my attempt at jogging again...no pubs, no betting shops and no distracting geocaches this time...wish me luck!!

  • Hello everyone
Im afraid Ive gone a bit off course on my SFDs, been on annual leave and out and about lots. I don't think Im going to hit targets and stick within budgets. However still keeping MSE in mind, ive not been reckless and kept a note of every penny spent. Sorry NSK:o x
Im out for tea at a friends house tonight with a group who we all used to work together. One of them is finishing for maternity leave and I was asked if I wanted to club in for a group gift. I said no, felt awful and tight doing it but Id already bought a lovely sleepsuit in the sales and shes not a close friend. I know Im going to sound horrible but I don't have children and probably never will. Therefore I always seem to be giving and not receiving for births, christenings and birthdays. And I normally to live by the rule you don't give to receive but some people really do think Im made of money......
On a positive note, ive done another bank shift yesterday and got another one tomorrow so money made is going well:j
Anyway best get my self and apple crumble together, hope peeps like it. TTFN xx

It's been a satisfyingly spendy day today! Got my £3.50 off at Mr S, stocking up on gluten free stuff. Got loads of shopping at Herr A, which always feels good. And found a bday present for dd in a charity shop, which will go into the bday pile for Jan. Result!:j Still all within budget. Yippee!

Have been reading up on websites to sell books, other than amazon, so hope to have a trawl through them over the next few days. If they are too complicated or pay a pittance then the charity shops can benefit!

It's now the final third of the month and time for a few jobs to be listed. I get 2 food shopping days within this period (I LOVE food shopping and probably know the price of what I buy in 3 different shops, all stemming from accompanying my dad to the markets when a kid and having to walk all the way round for him to compare prices before he would part with a penny! Thank you Dad:T). We have tap and ballet classes to takt dd to, a wedding (dh doing PA so will be there early) and a 60th party in the evening, all on Sat.

Hmm, that's not a very listy list!

Oh well! I'm grateful today for the bracing weather and a warm house to return to, dh coming shopping with me to carry the bags, a working washing machine, baths.

  • Hello all, I've not been on for a few days but have been reading. Much nodding in sympathy and agreement and smiling at everyone's achievements!

I've clocked up 14 SFDs including today. Lost a SFD on Tuesday as my baby got admitted to hospital with a high fever. I went to the doctors with her having asked for an emergency appointment and was sent from there to A&E and was then admitted. We're home now and she's much better - thankfully! The rush of it all didn't allow me to pack anything so I had to buy baby wipes and nappies when I ran out and also had to buy some food for myself. A shocking £60 was spent, proving yet again how expensive it is to be sick! Most annoying of the spends was 3.30 on a pack of baby wipes in the convenience store in the hospital. The pack cost more than a normal pack and this pack had 24 wipes in it against the normal 72... I felt quite upset actually when I paid for it as given that its a hospital and its an item used for children - we'll their taking advantage of parents with sick children :( Just glad to be home now with a recovering bubba.

Interesting to read everyone's stories and experiences of parents money management. My dad was awful, debt up to his eyeballs, always spending family money on himself (alcoholic and couldn't really give a toss about us I think) whilst mom would try to make finances stretch to food etc. I think I'm fairly good with money but also made a few silly mistakes with taking on some debt for frivolous reasons (holidays and so on). Mostly though, my debt is due to the recession making hubby unemployed. Rent & food still had to be paid and it went on credit whilst we were hoping for better times. We'll get out of it stronger though :)

Friday tomorrow and the weekend and hubby will be home for a few days hurrah :T
Finally had my eyes opened and I am ready to tackle my debts!
