I've just started a new job where I will sleep-over. Two of the other staff members have dogs that sleep on the bed and although of course the bedding is changed, the room stinks of dog. Not happy!
Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!
  • Dog is currently restricted to downstairs, as he is recovering from an operation.

Usually, he sleeps upstairs with us. He is quite good, and knows he is only allowed on furniture with a fleece throw on it. He had slept on the bed with us for several years, but about a year ago we stopped putting a throw on the end of the bed to keep him off- we got fed up of waking up aching and stiff from not being able to stretch our feet out, or clinging onto the edge of the bed because dog is lying in the middle, stretched out. I do miss him though, he had a lovely habit of lying alongside me with his head resting on me.

He does have a habit of stealing the duvet and making a nest in it! One really cold snowy winter a few years ago, we gave up on trying to heat the house, as we were desperately trying to scrape every penny together for our deposit to move. After a few nights of waking up freezing and having to prize the duvet out from under the dog we gave up and got out our camping sleeping bags- not great for a sex life, but we were all toasty warm!

He has his own bed in our bedroom, and our sitting room is also upstairs so up until his injury he generally spent the night on the part of the settee that was covered with a fleece throw.

Cats on the bed whenever they like whether we're in it or not, dog can sleep on the bed during the day, but at night it's the kitchen for him I'm afraid, otherwise he spends the night stomping on me to get as close as possible and chasing the cats.

OH lets the dog sleep with him when I'm not there and he's good as gold, just sleeps at his feet.

Actually, I think that's totally unfair.

Much as I might choose to have my dog on the bed occasionally, I wouldn't expect any one else to live with that and I only like it when I know my dogs are fairly clean.

Dogs sleep in a kennel at night as the have "issues", and are more than happy and snug in there.

Cats (x 4) sleep wherever they choose. 3 on the bed at the moment, all on oh's side as I fidget too much :) It's not unusal to find a cat sleeping on my head though.

It took one cat 3 years to accept my OH, but I hand reared her and she was over 10 when they met, she still scarpers if he dares to cough!
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D

We are getting on a bit in age and have always kept a dog.

None have ever been aloud upstairs.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Until recently, cats and dogs were both banned from the bedroom completely. Then the cats and later the dog died, and we got Rescue Cat. She is very insecure and was digging up the carpet to be let in, so my dear OH let her in and now it is a nightly thing. She likes to sleep where my feet should be, so every night is a battle for territory.

I'm not 100% happy with this, as I don't like pets in the bedroom at all, but I'm outvoted on this one.

If I ever dated a woman who had dogs or cats in her bedroom, I would be concerned. After all, if you want to ... you know ... what do you do with the animal? Let it watch?

Youd be concerned but you have a pet in your own bedroom that sleeps with you? Seems strange to be concerned when you do the same thing yourself.

Cats dont need to be in the bedroom all the time. There are other rooms for them to go to.

I usually have my pets in the living room, but I dont mind them being on my bed, but I have one of my ginger toms in with me just now, as my other ginger tom who is usually a placid soul, has decided he doesnt like the other (both neutered) and there have been a couple of scraps.

So until I get something with a cover on that one of them can sleep in at night in the living room (or turn about), my ginger tom is in with me.

Most of the time, they are quite happy to sleep in the living room.
