MSE News: Ryanair loosens hand luggage rules - but most charges stay sky high

Ryanair have been ripping off customers for years - they try to catch customers out whenever they see an opportunity to get more money off customers - I will never fly with the horrible company again....and people can say what they like as we are all entitled opinions. by my opinion is Ryanair are a joke of a company and I do hope they under in the very near future - thank u
They are also the reason that European skies have been opened up to everyone.
BA, now that's a company that's been ripping customers off for years. Particularly on their monopolised routes.0 -
It's worth noting that the small 'other bag' is included in the 10kg weight allowance, not in addition to, so don't get too excited! :wall:0

I agree. They may have the reputation for reluctance to issue refunds for failed flights, overnight accommodation, meals etc (although I've received the above after a very polite letter requesting same), surly staff (though not in my experience) intolerance, inflexibility, etc etc, but in the final analysis, without Ryanair many of us would find it very difficult to afford to fly at all. (I think that's one of the longest sentences I've ever written...sorry!)0

Wow, it’s so refreshing on this forum to see the Ryanairbashers comprehensively taken to task for a change.
Michael O’Leary has been a hero of mine for years. A fantastically successful business model –between him and Stelios they’ve transformed European air travel and forced thereal rip-off merchants, BA, Air France et al, to get competitive.
I strongly suspect that thousands of the “I’ll never flyRyanair again” born-to-moan brigade are backon Michael’s planes again in short order, tails between their legs, this timehaving followed the booking procedure correctly.
Stop comparing with conventional airlines – Ryanair is anairborne bus (although they run much more punctually than most buses).
What a laugh we’ll have at the outcry on the forums when O’Learystarts charging by the bodyweight kilo as well as the luggage. But I’ll have to lay off the sausage rollsthen if I want to get to France on time at a decent price.

How much of that success was built on unfair commercial practices, such as giving a misleading indication of price and not giving refunds where they were due?A fantastically successful business model
That is one controversial policy that I would very much support - an overall weight limit for passenger and baggage. Why should a 70kg passenger with 20kg of regulation-size cabin baggage pay more than a 100kg passenger with 10kg of cabin baggage? What a laugh we’ll have at the outcry on the forums when O’Learystarts charging by the bodyweight kilo as well as the luggage.0 -
Interesting points.
I retain my loyalty to BA mainly due to the long haul flights generating enough avios to fund very cheap euro reward trips.
It does make a real difference converting those tesco points and shell points into avios for Christmas market trips or summer jaunts elsewhere.
I totally understand and get why people with no affiliation would prefer to fly RyanAir. I did it once when I was younger and I avoided all those nasty add-ons but it isn't a nice consumer experience.
In fact the flight I did was 2p return to Belfast. And that was it. 2p. Never going to happen again though with all the taxes etc.....0 -
I've yet to find an airline I dislike, including Ryanair although I prefer BA if they are a realistic alternative, both because I like it better and because I collect Avios/tier points. Problem with BA is that unless you are in the vicinity of London you will need a stop-over which adds costs and time. That can be hard to justify if you have a cheap non-stop option with Ryanair.0

I'm sure it's not although that would be the same if you live in London and you're flying Ryanair (unless you happen to live close to the particular airports they use). For someone like me in Edinburgh the options are often low-cost direct or legacy airline through hub.0

If you can read and follow clear instructions on the T&C's section then Ryanair is miles ahead of any other airline. I don't understand why people complain about their charges. They have their rules in black and white. Nothing is hidden. Just have a bit of cop on for goodness sake and be prepared. I got a flight to Dublin for £30 all in recently. It would cost £21 to get to the airport in a taxi from my house!0
