ok I tried that and it was still the same. Rang 151 and got the innovative, groundbreaking advice of unplugging the modem for a minute then plugging it back in. They then said they would send an engineer out as it didnt fix the problem(i had already done this a number of times)0

Are you xVirgin.net (ADSL)
xBlueyonder / Telewest
or xNTL?
Roughly what area?
I'm xTelewest Virgin Media and have no problems.
There seems to be several areas with problems according to: http://status-cable.virginmedia.com/vmstatus/summary.do
Though if you don't have access to their website, you'd not see them.
You could try the service status line on: 0800 561 0061 see if they mention your area.
Edit: Just checked the status line and it states some users may not be able to access their email or webmail as there is a fault. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Im xVirgin.net and mines fineBaby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0

Quite frankly the way they are doing it I find disgusting
If you ring 151 the way they tell you that you are gonna be charged 25p/minute is as though they are doing you a favour!
Thats besides the point that the phone help is incompetent:'turn it on and off, wait a minute while we take more money off you, ok well i guess we send someone out to give you another one of our faulty modems'

Some time ago, can't remember when took advice from MSE to contact NTL to reduce monthly payments and luckily managed to get a reduction from £17.99 to £9.99 a month. Recently connection has been very bad and some days cannot connect to internet at all. Decided to make a change in provider and have been checking documentation. Found to my horror the direct debits have not been going through since the change to the lower amount. What do I do now? Should I confess to NTL (now Virgin) and have to pay back money owed (although this was not my fault direct debit wasn't amended correctly). Is the poor service due to the plug being pulled on me?Is it possible to sign up with another provider without contacting Virgin - we have a modem provided by NTL. Any help towards my next step would be gratefully appreciated.0

To increase your speeds you will have to change the proxy settings, see the ost I have put here to enter speeds from colchester, it doesnt matter where in the country you live if you use the colchester settings you should see a sharp increase.
