Storm coming

Wind can move the heaviest things ... the power in a big storm is tremendous. I'm at close on 1000ft and you wouldn't believe the things that blow away - cast iron garden tables and couch, bins with bricks piled on top, even bends lamp posts.0

Given that the storm hasn't actually formed yet and to put things in perspective, here's what it says on the Met Office website:
Currently forecasts suggest a low pressure system will rapidly deepen just to the south west of the UK later on Sunday, before moving across the country.
This could bring gusts of 60-80mph quite widely across the southern half of the UK, with gusts of more than 80mph possible in places - especially on exposed coasts.
Winds of this strength could bring down trees or cause structural damage, potentially causing transport disruption or power cuts.
This isn't a storm you would see every year, and if the storm arrives in line with current expectations wind strengths will be similar to storms seen in March 2008, January 2007 and October 2000.
Steve Willington, Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, said: "We are talking about a storm which doesn't yet exist, so there remains some uncertainty about its possible timing, track and strength. However, several forecasts models currently suggest we will see a significant storm with exceptionally strong winds impacting parts of England and Wales.
"This is a developing situation and we'd advise people to stay up to date with our forecasts and warnings over the weekend, and be prepared to change their plans if necessary. We'll continue to work closely with authorities and emergency services to ensure they are aware of the expected conditions."
2000 and 2008 would tie in with when we had the few trees down around where I am on the Isle of Dogs, and the roads around Canary Wharf were closed because the place turned into a dangerous wind tunnel with all the tall office buildings...
So certainly worth keeping an eye on things but no reason to be overly worried either (well not yet anyway)Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
It will blow over0

It is quite windy here today already and I wish I had bought a wind up radio now. I will have to get one for any future storms.:p I'm going to put all the batteries in one box and all the torches in another box and put them next to each other.
I also wish I had bought more of those Led candle holders from Asda. I do have some mini Halloween ones but they are really small and I'm not sure how much light they give out!0 -
I have no candles (not good for parrots) and no torches that work.Being in Devon,if it does hit and there's a powercut this will be great fun....If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0

Doesn't seem as powerful as suggested (wind wise) and they've changed the name of it...
Other places are still saying up to 100mph.
Hmm

Here's what the met office was saying at 11:53 today for the south-east.
