Storm coming

  • I was glad that I was prepared even though it wasn't needed.:) I think the stormy weather on Saturday night was worse than last night. It's sunny and blue sky here today.:D
  • I'm in the Cotswolds and we've not had much here either - alot of rain (One of the roads out of my village is flooded) but doesn't look like much wind damage from what I've seen so far.

I've always fancied a seafront view. It never occurred to me look for a seafront webcam so that I could look at one whenever I wanted. Am sad enough to have added it to favourites and have been intermittently staring at a darkened puddle for several seconds at a time :)

I'm pretty sad too ive got the Burnham on Sea and Bude Webcam bookmarked. If I cant live by the sea at least I can look at it from time to time. I'd bookmark others if I knew any.:o

The night was uneventful. No felled trees, no floods in my neck of the woods I'm pleased to say.:T

    I've been Money Tipped!
Bit of damage in town, roof came down off a local travel lodge and shop, shop front in town wrecked and various trees down, fences down and also some power off. Thankfully all ok here. Glad I was prepped though!

  • Nothing in Bristol other than rain. No heavy winds ect. Not sure if i'm disappointed tbh. I think the fact you pre prep for something which doesn't happen gives you a sense of comfy=ness!

Bright and sunny here.... edge of Eryri National Park. Washing going out in a minute because is definitely a 'drying wind'. Usual horizontal rain over night and fully expected the trees to be stripped bare but all OK - not even a stray recycling box in the lane :)

  • Well, frankly I wish I'd put the recycling bin out now. :o

We had nothing out of the ordinary here overnight (about 10 miles north of Derby) although it's less than pleasant at the moment; very grey, damp and dismal with some gusty winds on and off. We're prone to flooding on our road due to run-off from the fields but we don't even have a decent puddle. :D

I know what you mean. I've just been reading about the man who died when a tree fell on his car and the teenage girl who died when a tree fell on the mobile home where she was sleeping, and have also seen the pictures of some of the devastating damage to property (I thought the pic of the houses that seem to have fallen victim to a weather-related gas blast was particularly shocking).

I'm not sure any amount of prepping could have saved some of these people and feel desperately sorry for the families involved, but would like to think that there were some horror stories that didn't get to happen this morning because people were warned and knew to some extent what was coming. I'm very relieved we've escaped this time round (I've heard rumours of another storm on the way next weekend), but don't regret 'over-reacting' and would do it again in a heartbeat if I thought there was the slightest chance of preventing me and mine from featuring in the next news announcement of fatality or destruction.

We seem to have largely missed the worst of it here in London/Kent border. Very strong winds to the north in Docklands and to the south of us on the Downs proper also to the East along the Thames Estuary but where we are I would have described it as being a normal autumn gale.

It's taken all the leaves off the horse chestnuts in the roads around our house which were a bit affected by that blight and were brown around the edges back in summer so it looks much more like winter now. But the trees themselves were fine.
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
