:) It's possible but everthing commercial would lose it's gas before the domestic supplies went; presupposing it's a controlled loss of supply. Reason being that domestic heating systems would need to be attended by engineers before they could run again safely after an outage. If it's not under control, it's anybody's guess.

I have gas CH and hot water on a communal system. Industrial gas boilers but the controllers are electric. Leccy down (even for seconds) and the controls need to be re-set. There are about 6 men with keys to this boiler house, it's beyond the ken of regular gas engineers. As a standard gas safe register engineer told me last year; Unless you're trained on industrial boilers, you'd be a fool to even go in there.

My gas cooker is coming off a separate supply to the industrial system. Hopefully, she'll keep going but I'm going to have that kitchen washed up and sparkling within an inch of its life before the storm comes in, in case the hot water is down tomorrow.

The gas pressure might be very low which can make it hard to use more than one burner at once.

My emergency bags are packed, coats at the ready, car is off the drive away from potential falling tiles. Freezer is all adjusted and spaces filled with bags of water to keep it colder for longer. Several meals/parts of meals made up and the house is clean and tidy.

If nothing comes of it tonight then at least I don't have any housework or cooking to do tomorrow :)

I think if there's flooding they have to turn the gas off? Sure I read that somewhere. I don't know from experience though - by the time I flood you lot will be history :D:D
  • Just helped my neighbour wind proof their garden, now I really need to do mine but had to come in and warm. I'm in South Devon and was watching the sea bashing against the rocks today and it doesn't seem nice out there,

Have moved all valuables/important files upstairs in case of any flooding, have a shoulder bag with torch/spare batteries/ bottle of water/ sweeties to Carry with me, and candles and matches secreted about the house. I've lost things due to flooding before and I'm more worried about that than the wind.

Was planning to bring my wheelie bins into the porch and put all my plant pots (empty I'm not the most green fingered person!) in kitchen.

Prepared Sunday lunch but ended up having lunch at the pub so whacked it all in the fridge and will have it tomorrow, gas and electricity permitting.

Could have spent the afternoon hoovering, cleaning and watching tv forecast but decided to leave that sort of stuff - a sort of bonus if I don't have to do it till a few days time.

Got cupboard full of food, cold beans if nothing else. Lots of oatcakes and the stuff that will be in the fridge if necessary.

It might be bad, it might not be, but I am enjoying sitting here with my led candles, opti-myst fire and the kettle still working. Not going to worry too much about tomorrow.

Mind you, the most I have to do is go to my Pilates class in the afternoon and that is across the road from here.

Good luck to anyone affected, keep safe and well.
  • Bristol here, and all fairly quiet at the moment. I've got everything in that we need for a few days but am a bit worried about eldest daughter who is supposed to be getting the train from Newport to Bristol at around ten tonight. Would be worried enough even if she wasn't built like a knitting needle and will be very pleased when she eventually turns up.

Husband says I'm over-reacting, but he has no memory of the '87 storm. Unlike me, who can remember the minute details of the underside of the dining table which I sat under for most of the duration :)

In East Devon, just near Sidmouth. Still nice now... No rain, wind, nothing. Maybe it's on the way up.

My brother's in Budleigh and rather anxious about his lovely new greenhouse - he's recently got an allotment on a new site on the top of a hill, and a couple of weeks ago was lucky enough to find a free greenhouse on Gumtree. It was just about complete & already disassembled, and he spent a backbreaking weekend lugging it up there & building it. Right in the path of an incoming hurricane, top of the first hill in from the sea, no shelter whatsoever... poor boy! I've promised to send the pieces back if it lands in Dorset...
