Storm coming

all prepared here. I live in the Valleys and we are well used to high winds here - the valleys act like funnels so when the weather people forecast a 'brisk breeze' we usually get 'blow you over' gales!
at least I am not in a caravan this time!
I too am one of those strange people who like 'extreme' weather................but not when sat in a flimsy aluminium 'van!
am hoping for a bit of thunder n lightning - I adore a good storm and we get so few here!0 -
It was a dark and stormy night and the boy stood on the burning deck, so at least he had warm feet!!!!! I'm assuming we're all prepared as much as we can be and now we wait, which is definately the hardest thing in the world to do, but we have no option but to do it eh? I hope that we all emerge from the other side of this impending storm in the same condition we enter the beginning of it and can weather whatever the weather throws our way tonight. I expect lots of us will be awake for most of it if the wind is as noisy as I think it will be so, good luck to you all, good health to you all and don't take any risks, nothing is as important as all of you so stay safe, Love Lyn xxx.0

Just been giving myself a crash course in barometric pressure at sea level. Lower pressure = higher associated winds.
The lowest pressure recorded at SuperStorm Sandy was 940 millibars. And this thing is recording 990?! The lowest ever barometric pressure recorded was in 2005 - Hurricane Wilma - 882.
Really hope this thing isn't getting much stronger. Can we see how to get the readings off these Atlantic buoys?
ETA Gotcha! This is a UK weather buoy moored in the Atlantic roughly parallel to Northern France; http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=62029
National data buoy centre, hourly reading on buoys surrounding the uk ( as well as rest of the workd)
The pressure matches the projected one in the met office models at approx 944 at midnight, so it would seem the storm is behaving as per forecast.0 -
Yeah, can do beggar all about it, can we? I'm tidying up, having a bite of supper and then will have a nice hot bath later and away to my bed.
Mondays are always manic in my workplace, I have a feeling in me watter that tomorrow will be manic with knobs on.
Sleep tight, lovely peeps.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Long way off that in weather terms, anything can happen. It could turn out to be a doozer or just as easily melt away to nothing.
24 hours out is about the most accurate they can really forecast and that can be subject to intensification or downgrades as it develops.0 -
I slept through the 87 one, and will sleep through this one unless roof blows off. Still quiet here...
Kittie, if BBc and Met are dumbed down, there's no hope for me!:rotfl:
I've put my wheelie bin out, but it's weighed down with stuff, and is normally parked near the road anyway, as no-where else to go, so hopefully I won't be picking up rubbish tomorrow.
Take care peeps.0 -
the wind is getting up a fair bit here in Norfolk. Trying not to worry too much - it's out of my control. We have food and water and have sorted the garden as much as can be done. If we do lose power we can just bung on clothes and blankets. My biggest worry is getting the dog to go outside for a tinkle!! She doesn't like wind at the best of times - think we may need a mop !!:rotfl:0
