We are supposed to miss the worst of the wind up here but am worried about DD in Kent.

After a weekend away I am so tired that I plan to go to bed soon. I shall put my earplugs in and hope I sleep through it.

DD is supposed to catch an early train tomorrow to London but will suggest she checks online to see what trains are running before she sets off.

DH has a couple of torches but just fished out a windup one and wound it like crazy to keep by the side of the bed. Better to have it to hand and not need it than the other way round.

Glad I tidied out cupboards in kitchen so I can find things easily and also fished around sorting things like batteries, torches, candles wind up radio etc.

We have a gas cooker but I think the safety feature might stop it working if electric is off.

Thanks for the updates etc. I agree with you about Piers Corbyn.

Good luck everyone and fingers crossed.

Last time we had severe weather the bridge flooded and for safety reasons no one was allowed to cross the bridge (either car or on foot  ) Deliveries to shops were affected and I was very glad I had food and basics already at home and did not have to trudge around in deep puddles for basics like milk or bread and being faces with lots of empty shelves.

A lot if trains aren't running until after 9 in the South East and there is no overground trains in London either.
  • DD1 is supposed to be catching a train at 5.45 am tomorrow with 40 odd kids and 5 other staff members to get to St.Pancras for a Eurostar trip to Paris on a joint history/language trip for 6 days. Goodness knows if they'll actually make it tomorrow, I can only wish them luck and hope that thier journey if it is made isn't going to be as full of frustrations as I think it might be!!! Still if they do go, as long as they get there safely that's all that really matters isn't it?

    GQ

Talking of Botticelli's Venus = X factor has just had Lady Ga Ga
(well named IMO ;) ) prancing about the stage flashing her tattoos and underwear) with a backdrop of the painting.

I may be showing my age and grumpieness but I much preferred looking at the backdrop!!!

Ironic that a painting ( even a print of it) has more beauty, class and interest to it than a "live" performer!

It all seems very quiet here at present.

My car is due to got into the garage for a recall repair tomorrow, but that's something that can be cancelled if needed.

My main priority now is settling down for Downton Abbey. As long as I can watch that, I'm happy!

  • Thanks OMO she's been in touch with the tour company and monitoring the situation with the trains and the weather all afternoon, she's got to go to the station tomorrow whatever happens and take it from there, I think it's going to be a long and hasseley day for her and the rest of them, poor things.

It's our bin day tomorrow, rubbish bin, recycling bin (both wheelies) and food waste bin (like a hamper). Half the neighbours have wheeled them out! I bet they will be blowing around the street at night and smashing into the cars. Mines on the drive but DH van is on street. Are people daft?

Still very calm in the forest. The boys have just gone for a dip in the hot tub, it's the last day of our short break. They are making the most of it. We are just about packed and will be setting off home tomorrow. Hoping for a trouble free journey.

    Keep safe everyone.
