My thoughts exactly, why on earth would Alice become hysterical and suicidal when she's not even set eyes on him in over 5 years, and by all accounts doesn't even want to see him?

I'm sorry, but the OP is either more naive than she admits to, or yes, it's a complete wind up.

If it's all genuine and as he says, it could simply be Alice being manipulative to keep the money flowing.

She really could be an unstable individual who would act that way though. Such people exist-be they very lonely, mentally unwell, etc. Whether it's true in this case, who knows.

I don't believe he's being manipulated at all, why did he say if he found out Alice was being 'unfaithful' to him the money would stop? and I don't believe he's sending money to an ex girlfriend he hasn't seen in almost 6 years either..she's not his responsibility..there's definitely more to this story.

If he found out for certain that she was deceiving or manipulating him by having another (secret) partner he could end the whole debacle with no guilt. He would know she was not as lonely and pathetic as she makes out.
His having a secret (me!) shows he's got double standards, anyway!

As a person or towards you? Because if his stor is straight up he is being a manipulative lar to Alice......being prepared to let her take blame for breakup but not take any himself, and liking to her.

Op hes taking you for an absolute fool. In fact Im beginning to believe this post in a wind up like the person above because I cant see how anyone unless they had issues like being vulnerable or having impared understanding would believe him and put up with all that rubbish.
Theres no way she would kill herself, she will be getting DLA and ESA at the very least if shes that bad.
The whole thing is so odd and wierd I'd just get rid of him anyway as he sounds like some kind of nutter or thinks you are away with the fairies.
You are definatley being wound up, if your not winding this site up yourself because your bored etc.
