Hi, please move if necessary, I couldn't find the existing retentions thread.

Anyway an Indian guy from some retailer affiliated with '3' phoned me today. He seemed to know that I'd been with both '3' and Orange (although not about my O2 contract which is just ending - it's been over a year since i was last with '3' and 4 months for Orange).

Anyway he was offering the N95 free for an 18 month contract, £20 per month for the life of the contract, 500 mins and 500 texts.

I know people have seen cheaper deals elsewhere but this may be a bargaining chip you could use for anyone going with '3'. Note that the guy was not from '3', but was affiliaited with them, I couldn't get the name of the retailer through the guy's accent though.

I told him I wasn't interested as I already had a contract with T-Mobile which I started last Saturday. He then repeated the deal with '3', but just ignored me when I asked him why on earth I'd pay £500+ to cancel my T-Mobile contract to go with him. Grrr, I hate people that won't see logic when trying to sell something. Marketing is fine, but when the customer clearly has a genuine reason for not wanting your product, why do you continue to push it? Are you deliberately trying to lose customers and give yourself a bad name? I would have understood if I'd given some other excuse and was trying to get rid of him, but I even went into the real explanation why I was not able to take his deal.

Anyway hope someone find it useful. Works out at £360 for the N95, quite reasonable, and presumably you could get it unlocked somewhere.

3 retentions guys ....Your better off getting the 12 month free with 500 mins and 100 txt which they credit you 350 quid ...which is what i got over 12 months ....then u pick a higher tariff paying 5 quid more ....

so u get 750 mins 150 txt an a lot of extras for 5.50 a month ....lol then you go on ebay an buy the n95 for 200 on 3g LOL an then ...

    5*12= 60 ...10 as well so 70 ....200 quid for phone 270

    270/12 = 22.50 a month ....free n95 750 mins 150 txt ...lol

TBH even if I was in a position to go for it I would be very vary. A friend a couple years back bought a contract through one of these telesales agents and later had major problems cancelling the contract when '3' breeched it, he was bounced back and forth between '3' and the agent, finally went to debt collectors. Yours truly had to write a letter to the debt collectors explaining the situation who then dropped the case, but it was a real tug of war. I'm not sure if his credit file suffered, but needless to say it put us right off buying through guys like these.

If he does call back and I'm in to take the call I'll be sure to get the name though. Admittedly I was in a bit of a rush earlier trying to sort out holiday preps so it wasn't high on my list of priorities. I hung up when the guy started his spiel for the third time.

I think i'm going to go for this:
    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deal/41452/sony-ericsson-w580i-12-months-free-

then 12months free line rental and sell the w580i, sell my old k800i then buy n95 outright. Nice thinking ;) Then I can get tmobile unlimited inet on it.
  • Phoned Orange retentions (although I don't actually think I got through to retentions, I just pressed the relevant phone menu options), anyway asked for my PAC code and when asked why I said I wanted the N95 and cheap internet access and thought I could get it cheaper from another network:

    I was on 500 mins / 500 texts for £25/month

    Was offered:
    N95 - free
    2600mins / unlimited texts
unlimited weekend and evening internet access
    £35 /month

    OR

    N95 - free
    2600mins / unlimited texts
    30Mb data (anytime) / month
    £38/month

forgot to ask if these were 12 or 18month contracts, probably 18months.

Only problem is the orange signal at my house isn't the greatest, but those deals certainly include an awful lot of mins and texts !
Haven't decided but may go for the phone on 3.
Why do companies offer you "free gifts?"
Since when has a gift NOT been free?

    I'd say probably http://threestore.three.co.uk/offerdetails.aspx?offercode=18TT90D044

750 anytime/any network mins, 15o texts, £28 per month free memory card and if you speak to the live chat thingy on their website you can get a code for a free bluetooth. The phone is £49.99 but go via Quidco to get, I think I minimum of £55 cashback which effectively pays for the phone. If you search the forums, if someone is already with 3 and gives you their number as if they have recommended you you get £30 and the person who recommends you gets £30, but most peope offer to split it with you giving you another £47. Taking into account the extra £47 it brings the monthly cost down to about £24 per month which I think is a good deal, still contmplating it, but cannot get anything near this as a new customer on o2 payg, looking to take out a contract phone.

    Hope this helps.

but its not unlimited is it ! not with all thier restrictions, & its 50% more a month than 3's 5.00 per month REAL unlimited offering :)
